    I've been Money Tipped!
My mum is the best! She's been so helpful - I thought she might take over but not at all! Her and my dad have paid for mine and the bm dresses and other things like deposits. They have really helped us out both financially and emotionally!
    Love my mum :)
First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/14 :D
  • My mum's fantastic and my nana too! They leave all the planning to me but I run my ideas past them (and my OH who usually just shrugs and says "whatever makes you happy, I'll give you the money and you do with it what you need to)". They've been with me to look at wedding cars and were there when I picked my flowers and wedding ring (even though I already knew which one I really wanted). I'm so blessed with them both :)
  • I'm surprised at mine... she's quite disinterested.... I always thought we'd do things together and plan things but she doesn't really seem to care particularly. I'm finding it quite hurtful.
Today in fact I emailed her about a concert I thought her and my Dad might like to go to the day after the wedding and she replied saying they were looking at going to one the night before (the wedding night!) but had been checking to see if my Dad was home (he works off shore) 'silly me' she said when i'd reminded her erm... your daughter is getting married that day...
I know we forget things but still... she's not exactly senile and SURELY it should be a date you'd remember?! Pah... now I feel daft for being so bothered but it's another little niggly thing that makes me feel quite hurt.
Glad for those who's mums are good though!

Your mum sounds like mine - do you have other female relatives/good friends who can step in?
I didn't think i was close to one of my aunts before the wedding, but as they have no children, and my mum wasn't interested, i asked if she would like to be involved, and she was over the moon - she and my uncle have been fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and at times they were more excited than we were lol
and we are much closer now because of it - my mums loss is our gain!

    just a thought

Oh, what a shame :( , have a hug xxx

My mum isn't exactly THAT enthusiastic - she's definitely not into the dress shopping and all that, I have been to 2-3 shops with her but am better on my own - she gets a glazed look in her eyes after 3-4 dresses! :rotfl: She's also told me that she doesn't mind what dress I choose as long as *I* love it.

I guess I should count myself lucky that she's not being all Mumzilla on me, but sometimes I do wish she'd take a more 'active' interest lol. But she is great on the whole, and such a sweet, easygoing mother - I wouldn't change her for the world.

Yeh Mumzilla would defo be worse but it would be nice for a little bit of enthusiasm... Maybe mums are used to us being independent so figure this would be the same... I dunno...

My sister came with me to try on my dress, I'm not very 'into' sparkles and strapless etc so had a specific one in mind, I came out all quite pleased (but a bit freaked) and.... did she cry... no... she laughed LAUGHED! It was kind of funny I spose...

My Mum would be the same for dress shopping as yours, she has the attention span of a puppy lol!!!

LOL at your sister! I've had the giggles in dress shops a few times myself, haven't cried at all, I'm not like that! I'll cry easily, but not over a blimmin' dress!!! :rotfl:

  • If any of you B2B's read this thread right through, you may come to see that us poor Mums can't do right for doing wrong!:o

It's as difficult not to interfere if you are excited, as it is to know when to step up.

We all do the best each of us can according to our own take on life so try and be tolerant as we do to all of you?:D

Best of luck to you all, and most of all to jojo2004, my own special DD getting married on Jan 7th 2012. yay.xxx

Nice to see another MOB on here - I often feel like I'm here under false pretences! I am so excited about Catherine's wedding and fully involved - I keep saying out loud 'It is not MY wedding' to remind myself that I am not making the decisions, because I am a bit of a control freak. I hope I am getting the balance right but it is so hard to know! I just want it to be the most perfect magical day which they will both remember forever! Good luck to all the brides as well especially TheSeventh, getting married 22.09.2012!

My Mum has been great - she gave us a small amount of money and since then left us to it! I think maybe because it is my second wedding she feels it doesn't warrant a fuss. I am glad she has kept out - it means we can do things how we want - for my first wedding we only had 40 guests during the day and 8 of those ended up being friends of the parents!! I was so cross. This time we are only having 60+ guests in the day, but they are all people we want. Not one 'friend of the parents' is invited. They can come along to the night do like every one else.

My sister got married last year and it was all so disorganised - we were doing flowers at 7am the morning before, my parents house became a whirlwind of chaos, my Mum was putting jam on scones half an hour before the ceremony.... for my wedding she has made it VERY clear that she doesn't want anything like that. They have booked into the hotel the night before so there is no rushing around. Granted, it is close to us, so she will be around if we need here, but I really hope she has time for a massage and a treat the day before.

She has shown me her proposed outfit for the night time and she did make all the right noises when I sent their invite and frankly that will do for me!
