went through a red light my fault?

30mins ago i went through a red light i didnt see it, as iwas looking at the flashing open sign in the same direction... is it my fault? can I appeal?
ps it was a camera that caught me doi just get a fine or do i get point also?

I went through a red light a couple of years ago as I was distracted by another driver in the next lane who was veering towards me. As I was watching them and was vaguely aware that the car in front of me was going through the traffic lights I continued, except I went through on red. I had no right of appeal. Sorry.

but its nearly christmas and the policemans christmas ball is soon and they need the money..
however the cut backs, maybe on the film..

You have to be sent (and receive) a Notice of Intended Prosecution within 14 days. A prosecution cannot succeed without it. If you've received nothing in that timescale, then relax.

If you do receive the NIP, you'll also receive a s.172 Notice to give details of the driver. Fill this in and return. I'd send it recorded delivery but at least get a certificate of posting and retain a copy for your own records. Failure to reply to the s.172 Notice is more serious than going through a traffic light.

Assuming you receive and return the s.172 notice then the others' responses are correct.

Where abouts was this as it may not be a red light camera. Many don't work anyway due to unsafe maintenance access. you may be lucky

Money from speed cameras and red light cameras don't go to the Police sadly . If you're offered the course however, then the force get the money!
