How much do you spend on your mum at Christmas?

  • I budget £20-30 for family but find it increasingly difficult to work out what to buy for my parents. There is just nothing they want. This year they are getting a box of chocolates as I don't see the point in buying things they aren't interested in just for the sake of it. My mum hates Christmas anyway.

This mum wouldn't expect mcuh spent on her. A book I'd enjoy or theatre tickets would be great.

I haven't spend anything yet, and it's her birthday a week after Christmas . I have absolutely no idea what to get, with any amount of money. Other than a house I don't think she wants anything.

It depends. This year it'll be about £50 as I have something in mind that she will like and I can afford it. I would probably spend more for her birthday than for Christmas as a rule, but it depends on what I think of. To be honest, my Mum is quite well off and it's quite hard thinking of something she would want. It really has to be something she is not aware exists yet.

If you can afford to spend the money, then I think you should. If you are struggling, then I don't think you need to spend so much.

I have spent £4.99 on a 6 spaced picture frame that she has asked for and I will fill it with 6 pics of my daughters. It was what she asked for :D

  • At the risk of sounding like a cheapskate, normally about £20 and the same on her birthday. This year it will be a little less as my sisters and I have got her vouchers for a cookery school as a joint birthday and Christmas gift - she's retiring next week and this is something she's talked about doing for ages so it's a good choice of present but not something we could afford if we didn't buy it together - so she got that on her birthday yesterday. I have also got her a posh handcream so she will have something to open on the day.

On the other hand, my mum has spent about £40 on my gran (her mum) for Christmas, which does make me feel a bit cheap but then again she has a much better paid job than I do so can afford to spend that much. I would love to be able to spend more and get my mum a few more things but my budget simply won't stretch that far.

I told my grown up children to spend no more than £10. We have done this for 3 years now and we have a lovely home made and os selection of gifts. Truly in the christmas spirit

I spend roughly £10 each on my mum and dad for Christmas and Birthday. Its all I can afford, and I spend months looking for something, last year they got a joint present of a printed canvas of my children, which came to £21. This year I haven't spent a penny on my mother as I won her present through the comps board on here. Dad should come in around £10 as ive made him a cheese, wine and chutney hamper which he will love.

Its not about how much I spend on them, its about how much time and effort I put into their gifts to make sure they are something they will love, that shows them how much they mean to me.

This year's Christmas I'm spending £10. This is because I bought her GHD Hair Straighteners for her birthday and she made me promise that was her Birthday and Christmas Present!! hehee! I can't have her not having anything to open so I've got her a few bits I know she'll like. We usually stick to very small budgets in our family. We just make sure we spend time with each other at Christmas.
