Post Wedding Illness

I have posted this on November Weddings, but thought i'd share with everybody....

I've been SO ill since our wedding it's unbelievable!

We married on Friday 11.11.11.
The day after, both me and my husband :) came down with sore throats and sniffles....

Probably the by product of being kissed and hugged by so many guests with colds we thought!

Off we flew to Cyprus - for the first 2 days, I felt dreadful, hot, cold, clammy, shivery, sweaty - kept bursting into tears, i'm sure that the hotel thought we weren't actually honeymooners at all lol.

The next 2 days i felt slightly better, and my husband felt dreadful - he perked up but i struggled with a chesty cough (i'm asthmatic).

We returned home Monday 21st and i went to docs the next day and was given antibiotics and steroids, with an order to return on friday if there was no improvement, because it shouldn't be left over the weekend. By friday 24th, i couldn't walk up or down the stairs without stopping for a breather!

My Gp admitted me to hospital there and then and sent me on my way. Verdict was viral infection acerbated asthma. After 4 days i was discharged and told to continue to rest at home. 2 days later, On Thursday 1st December, hubby rang the Gp to say that the antibiotics had run out, i was no better, could we get some more - she wanted to see me, down we went and was admitted to hospital again, there and then and sent on our way. This time my asthma was much worse, and everything was pretty urgent, and after IV Magnesium, Steroids and antibiotics the first evening, and a further 3 days of oral steroid and a stronger antibiotic, i have again been discharged to rest and recover at home, with possible whooping cough acerbated asthma!

At the moment, i find it very difficult to speak - talking wears me out, makes me cough, makes me start to wheeze and flares an asthma attack - i can't move much - walking has the same effect - so my whole married life so far has been pretty pants (though i've had lots of time to keep looking online at the fab photo's and remember the day!

Luckily, I married a husband in a million. Carlsberg don't do husbands, but if they did they won't come any better than mine!

He has been sorting my son and the dog, cats and rabbit out every morning - going to work - coming home in his lunch hour (either to make my lunch when home, or to let the dog out when in hospital!) and back to work (a 40 mile round trip).

Home from work at 5.45pm, sorting out dog and getting up to the hospital for visiting at 6.30-8pm.
Home - feed himself and my son - sort out homework and school bag for the next day - final walk and feed dog.
Do all the things on my list of things to do (things i need, people to ring, etc) and learn to use the washing machine, vacuuming (every day because of the pets!) ironing, the list goes on.

The last 2 weekends have been no easier - Up - walk dog and feed pets - take my son to stage school 10.15 - 1.30pm. in beween clean and tidy and sort out what i need for visiting.
Pick son up at 1.30pm and to hospital for 2-4pm. - home for a few hours and back at 6.30-8pm
Sunday - church and more of the above.

I've been told that the recuperation time is likely to be 4 weeks, so though i should be able to start doing little things hopefully sometime soon, he is going to have to keep everything going up to and over xmas!

i have married the BEST man on the planet, and intend to make suree he knows this when i get better next year!

no xmas presents this year, as we're skint from the wedding lol

Sorry it's so downbeat and bad news - i truly hope ALL the other new brides and b2b's are having a better time of it than me

Poor you! Sending you lots of honey and lemon, hot water bottles and daytime tv across the cyber-waves! Hope you feel better soon xx
  • Oh hun!! (((((hugs)))))

Perhaps it had been brewing for a while, but excitement/nerves/adrenaline over the wedding had held it off until you had the chance to relax...

I really hope you're better soon, and huge congratulations on your marriage to the complete star your husband clearly is!!

thanks everybody - i DEFINITELY married the right man!

I think it had been brewing WhiteSapphire, i had a few weekends where i felt iffy, but did not have the time to be ill, so wasn't! lol

I tried to do too much on my own (oh is USELESS at planning-he does have a weakness lol), and work too close up to the wedding, with a mentally and physically demanding occupation.

i've had asthma for 7 years, and have a fairly physical day job, and it has never impacted my life before, let alone been life threatening, so it has been a real wake up call for me :(

But REALLY appreciate all the hugs and good wishes
    Thank you xxxxx

  I've put 5lb on this week!!

I have been laid up, eating chocolate and birthday cake (yesterday!), with no exercise (it's all i can do to get from settee up to loo and back) but 5lb!!

    I'm gutted

and the prospect of another 2 weeks like this (after visit to consultant at hospital yesterday) leaves me feeling really depressed

    :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

The diagnosis is Whooping Cough - that is the virus my body is fighting, and the virus that acerbated my asthma!
Thankfully my asthma is settled down and under control again - but this whooping cough is debilitating!

Even just eating a meal makes me shake and leaves me out of breath - and I can only write 5 xmas cards at a time before my arm aches and starts shaking so badly that i can't write and it takes over an hour, sometimes 2 before i can start doing anything else, i just can't lift my arms up - the muscles feel like i've been throwing a shot-put constantly for an hour.

Explained this to the consultant, and he said that it sounds normal - whooping cough can be a really nasty virus and your body needs all it's energy to right the virus!!!!

To me - it's pathetic and frustrating, and EVEN more annoying now that i've managed to pile 5lb on!

    grrrrrrrrrrr

    sorry to rant :(
