I don't mind it use to hate drivers right up my backside with their lights blaring in my mirrors but since I changed car the rear view mirror filters glare brilliantly far more than old car. I rarely drive on motorway as there isn't one near me but I did drive once in dark and whilst its okay and far quieter than day time I don't like it when some motorways don't have lights on and at time it was chucking it down and I couldn't see the lines on road for lanes because of the glare

I used to prefer driving in the dark. Now, I hate it. I tense myself up and end up with aching shoulders. I wrote off a car on black ice years ago - the 3rd car of a 5 car pile-up. It was dark. And i've hit 2 deer in the dark so now i'm very wary. There's nothing you can do if a deer jumps out right in front of your car. My husband, son, nephew and brother-in-law have all hit deer too so my fears of hitting another one is real. At least during the day you have more chance of seeing them.
  • Does anyone find when the road is wet and it is dark it is extremely difficult to see the road markings when driving along?

    This.

I don't mind on roads that I'm used to. This always seems to happen when I'm in a strange town somewhere in evening rush hour. As other cars headlights shine off the road making it difficult to see the markings.

Ah you see, I only stress when other drivers are around, because it's information overload, there's enough to concentrate on without having to wonder if some chocolate star boy is gonna do something daft.... Like entering a dual carriageway roundabout in lane 2 and exiting in lane 1 :(

As for ice, well..... This is why I hate modern cars with soft suspension, assisted single piston brakes and OTT power steering systems. You can't feel a damn thing through the seat or the steering wheel. There's no feedback at all.... So by the time you realise it's losing grip, it's far too late to do anything.

  • Night driving best after about 11pm, fewer idiots on the road and the few that are can be easily overtaken, like turning the clock back 30 or so years when driving was enjoyable, early hours of the morning between midnight and 0300 the best.

Agree with you about stealth overtakes Strider, it's the safest way anytime of day, slingshot from left hand bend my favourite.

Well.... :) Every idiot can drive fast in a straight line, so use the bends to your advantage, catch em on the brakes and they can't try to stop you. Very useful for overtaking women driving slowly in big fast cars (they always boot it when you try to pass on a straight road, but they're too scared to do it in a corner).

    .

but more drink drivers at night esp at this time of the year.

Plus all the idiots that think driving with front fogs is cool (Until i switch on my rear fog lamp (for a few seconds) to let them know how annoying it is!)

Busy urban roads infested with damnable humps causing massive dazzle as the fronts of oncoming and following cars rear up.

I don't mind driving in the dark, what annoys me though is idiots who won't turn off their full beams when in front of you or behind you or those with their foglights turned on.

Motorways are nice at night, less congestion, easier stress-free drive.. narrow A roads I don't like though as pot holes jump out at you.
