Travel Insurer wants updates

I took out my annual travel insurance policy earlier this year; the premiums had already increased sharply in recent years as I passed retirement age.

As I have just booked another 2 week holiday for early next year I looked up the policy wording. I was surprised to find that the insurer requires policy holders to advise if any new conditions occur beyond those that applied when the policy was taken out, or any changes to ailments already notified. Why is this?

As far as I am concerned they insured me on the basis of the conditions that existed at policy purchase time. What action are they likely to take if I admit to new problems that have arisen? Can they decline to cover me for these new conditions during the period of the policy?

They do need to know as the risk has changed.

I have twice informed my travel insurer due to new conditions both requiring surgery. On both occasions the conditions were accepted and covered with no additional premium. I was actually travelling abroad with the condition while waiting for surgery and it was still covered.
