It'll work fine on the motorway, not as refined as some bigger cars, but it'll do.
Have you considered older Volvo S40 1.9 Tdi's? THey get good Mpg, are reliable and more refined for motorway milage. Plenty about for £2k.0 -
it has done around 90k miles , i think i might just take the plunge as i am traveling on the buses and it is killing me ( especially in this weather ).
It just that my cousin has an 2006 Fiesta Diesel which he brought at auction which has cost him just about the same as he paid for it in repairs.0 -
You will save little with the 1.4 TDci at his sort of age and mileage.
Yes the 1.4 petrol fitted to the Fiesta of that ilk will do about 44-45 mpg but with the prices of diesel always higher and the tendency of this engine (fitted to many makes) to start and cost more from 100k miles you stepping close enough to false economy.
A small chain cam petrol will be my choice if economy is the main thing on your mind. Small car + motorway =Noise so pop up the volume on the radio.Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

Hi thanks to eveyone for their advice and help . I went to view a few cars to today but the sellers were very dodgy .
I have decided i really need an diesel due to the miles i do , but i think it will be best if i look for an cheaper ( older ) VW golf or 306 peugeot .
I spotted this and will try and get it for an grand .
