One thing, for example, that I hadn't grasped is that we should have a *basic* account without cheque book or overdraft facility. This is what she's suggested is that right? We were hoping to move to an account that at least had a debit card to use in shops or over the phone. Can someone confirm for me please? Thanks.
Next stage is to click that 'DMP' button on the website and fill in the remaining details. Probably do that later tonight when Mr BlushingRose is home.
Hi
I've just been speaking to CCCS about our new bank account actually. We have opened a normal Santander Current account with a debit card and a cheque book. We didn't ask for an overdraft but when the paperwork came they had given us one anyway. I asked CCCS what to do about this and wondered if I had opened the wrong type of account. But it seems the debit card and the cheque book are absolutely fine. The only thing that isn't is the overdraft and they said I MUST get that removed immediately so that I don't ever have the temptation to use it.
Good luck tonight when you go ahead with the DMP. DH and I sat together and did ours. It definitely feels much better being in it together.0 -

The co-op basic account gives you a debit card, so no worries there. Am just waiting for my pin number. My hubby's salary will go into the new account on Friday. Still have a dd to go out of the ok'd account on the secured loan and can't let that bounce for obvious reasons!
Anyway, my fingers are in my ears to block out the phone and the letters are being ignored. I sent a token payment to all but the lloyds credit card recorded post yesterday so hope they'll go away and let Payplan do their stuff.
Hello
Sounds like you are at the same stage as me although the phone calls haven't started yet. I'm account juggling too trying to make sure there is enough money in both accounts to make sure all payments are met. Bit annoyed though that apparently it will take tax credits 30 days to switch which account they pay me into! Thats going to slow things down a bit!
I'm feeling pretty scared too and today I've jumped every time the phone rings! I hope I can learn to control that soon. But as well as feeling scared I feel a huge sense of relief, looking at our budget, knowing we have the money to pay all the priority bills this month and we can buy food. That feels so much better already!

VERY happy to have another buddy. I think you're a bit ahead of us, but that's good, it means I can lean on you as well as you leaning on me

Yeah, I'm dreading when the letters and phone calls start to happen, although hopefully with the support of CCCS we'll be able to cope with them.
WE'LL know we're doing the right thing and paying what we can, so the creditors will just have to cope
Yeah we go from being positive, to crying, and everything in between. *sigh* I have a feeling it's all going to get worse before it gets better and I'm dreading that - but so long as Mt BlushingRose and I are together, we can see it through, I'm sure. Our LBM: Dec 2011. Yes, we can all lean on each other. I feel better knowing you two are there if I need to speak to someone already!
I just wish the direct debit mandates for the mortgage and secured loan would turn up so I can get them sent straight back. Neither will set up over the phone.
My hubby still has his priorities all wrong as he's planing on saving any overtime money towards a new motorbike! I just want to throw everything spare at the debt to get rid of it and start the clean up operation. Will have to work on him! Lol.SPC5 #1457 Long hauler #293

Glad to hear you are getting back on track. I was in the same situation a while back - approached payplan who were graet and spoke to all the people who were owed money. Most were more helpful than I thought -stopping the cards and allowing reduced payments in return. Even the gas / electric and water let us make reduced payments for a while. I cut down food loads - check out the reduced stuff at the end of the day / got loads of cheap stuff in iceland. At one point we were eating off just £20 a week !!
Most importantly I found a job. I know its hard these days but as well as trying to find a ' proper job' go round to the agencies and offer to temp doing anything you can. I washed dishes, did admin, worked as a car park patroller, in a call centre, supermarket...... then found a proper job and it was easier to get one as they saw I had been making the effort to work hard . Even a few hours a week at minimum wage will boost your income . Many shops recruit for xmas. Also sell any unwanted things - furniture, clothes, jewellry etc.
Most importantly things will get better so just fix your mind on the time infuture when you are sorted becauase it will happen and it will feel great.
All the best X0 -

I did phone them yes. The advisor didn't really say a lot, didn't advise me to do anything and didn't make an appointment or anything.
She agreed with me when I said I was being advised about a bank account change. She said to go onto their website and go through the 'I want a DMP' section, after which she said they'd send us out a help pack.
Should she had made us an appointment for something then? Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568
