A DMP is just the first step - the wealth of knowledge on here is astounding - how to fix stuff, feed a family on three lentils and a stock-cube (I'm kidding but only just) now to get the best deals, how to find freebies
in short how to play and win at this game called money.
But its baby steps first - a slow systematic turnaround to your finances, one that is so worth it.

Thanks so much xx

Morning Blushing,
I've hijacked the postie this morning and still no direct debit mandates or pin number for the new bank account
I feel like it's all conspiring against me to get the Lloyds account shut so we can move on. All the time lloyds phoning and writing demanding money for last months payment which we missed for the first time on my credit card. I've got a token payment in an envelope to send to them but can't as I'm not to let them know whilst the bank account is still open. *silently screams*
And to top it off I'm being plagued with phonecalls from Citi Financial for a Mrs Jackson and they don't seem able to get it into there heads that I am not and never will be Mrs Jackson! I've only had the land line 2 months.SPC5 #1457 Long hauler #293

Yeah, I must admit that we've been working under the impression that once the new account is open, then it's done, but of course it's s till a waiting game for a while.Wannabefree1 wrote: »I feel like it's all conspiring against me to get the Lloyds account shut so we can move on. Yeah, we're not looking forward to the calls and letters...but at the moment Mr BR seems to be feeling more positive about it all than I am.Wannabefree1 wrote: »And to top it off I'm being plagued with phonecalls from Citi Financial for a Mrs Jackson and they don't seem able to get it into there heads that I am not and never will be Mrs Jackson! Hmmm....do they have the correct address as well? If so, was she a previous owner? If not then you've obviously got a 'previously used' phone number...Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

BR this might sound a little odd...I dont know where you live, but are you close to any supermarkets at all? I know some are taking on staff (even if only for Crimbo) but that would give you a little extra cash...hth
Congrats on getting yourselves on the road...Oh and I started ours in June...feels so much better knowing that we are paying our debts off. I am applying for a ft job, so hopefully we will be able to pay off a bit quicker!0 -
I've found that stores have usually taken on all their Christmas staff by December...
This morning I've registered at a Job Club, the first thing which is going to happen is that they'll update my CV for me and make sure it's up to scratch.
*Urgh* I hope that CCCS will be able to update their records and include this standing order in our outgoings...Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

Oh, meant to ask (and should this be in a different thread?) how might we go about closing our store card?
It's only got £25 on it, and frankly it's rarely been used at all and is usually paid off straight away.
Obviously, now we're entering into a DMP we'll need to close it, but I can't see anything about closing it on the paperwork. We *could* keep it open, of course, but there lies temptation if I want a new frock...Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

Ring or write to them and tell them you want to close the account. Pay that £25 if you have it or add it to the DMP - but they usually charge 30%+ interest on store cards....0 -

Yes, we can pay it off first...don;t want to add any more to the DMP if we can help it, the amount we've already got is enough!
Would rather close it than default on it.Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

Hi Blushing Rose. I haven't read the full thread so please forgive me if I am repeating earlier advice. However, I am in a hurry but wanted to pass on a little advice to you.
I started my DMP in October, following contact with Payplan in the September (this year). The one thing I regret is not having made token payments for a few months to my creditors. It would not have made any difference in the long run (my DMP will probably run for approx 15 years so 2 months in neither here nor there). So have a think about exactly when you want your DMP to start and use the intervening time to build up an emergency fund. It is very scarey when you get rid of your credit cards and ability to get loans etc, you worry that things could go wrong, so this nest egg would give you a little ease of mind.
Good luckLBM August 2011. DFD somewhere post [STRIKE]2025[/STRIKE]2022

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately, we have no cash - we've been living day to day off a credit card for a while now, so it's unlikely that we'll be able to get a fund together - unless we have a month, say, of not doing anything before starting the DMP properlyOur LBM: Dec 2011.
