O2 Internet

Hi
I signed up with O2 broadband 3 years ago as the deal was excellent. It was £7.24 a month (I was told this would not change or go up even after the first year). I also have to top up my O2 mobile with £10 every 3 months.
They have since put the cost up to £9.50 per month. Am I getting a good deal paying a total of:
£9.50 x 12 months = £114
£10 top up x 4 payments = £40
Total: £154 per year.
Is this good or are there any better deals out there? I look at the information on the other companies websites but it bamboozles me.

Better does that mean better service or cheaper .I pay £5 a month now more than i did for better service with BE compared to Talk Talk .
£204 a year standalone nothing to do with mobile .
I would suggest if you are getting good service stick with O2 .
O2 offered me a similar deal when buying my last mobile but i did not want the top up to interfere .

No you are not getting a good deal because if you ask O2, they will give you six month free broadband. Read the O2 retention thread but you only need to ask them. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Does this not put you onto one of the current tariffs though? OP is presumably on a legacy package if they signed up 3 years ago.
At the very least they should offer you a £2.50 rentention deal, and this should not require a tariff change.
But it's not automatic, you have to ask.No free lunch, and no free laptop

No, just ring O2 and choose the option for broadband and about disconnecting and you go straight through to retentions where you can ask for the 6 months free on your current package. This is all I did for me and also my parents.0 -
thank you to all who replied. I am going to take your advice. Many thanks to you all. :j0

The 6 months free offer does require you to be on, or switch to, 'The Basics' or 'The All Rounder' broadband tariffs. It is not available on the legacy tariffs according to the O2 website. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Not true, there are two six month free offers - one for new customers as shown on the website and a retention offer for existing customers (not available with cashback). If the OP had rung up to complain about the price increase when it went to to £9.50, they would have been offered the six month free offer. The six month free offer is available now to existing customers on the old legacy packages with no switch required to new packages. Read the O2 retention thread, been there and done it. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

This is only for new packages, you've to ring up retentions for older packages.0 -

Yes, but the "And if you've already got our home broadband, you can still get all these things. As long as you've had an O2 mobile for two years, and are eligible to re-sign your contract with us." makes me think different.
I phoned them (already only paying £4 or so on an old deal and I have a pay monthly mobile (which allows for £5 off ADSL anyway)) and was told they couldn't arrange for the 6 months' free so I spoke with one of those live chat O2 Gurus who sorted it. Extended my broadband for 12 months: first 6 months no charge. Got an email through confirming this.
