Hi
Just installed JaxtrSMS app on my iphone 4S (also available on Android & Blackberry) which lets you send free SMS to any user in the world. Unlike other free SMS apps, the recipient does NOT need to have the app installed on their phone. Just tried it and works like a charm...messages get delivered instantly. You do have to register by providing your name and mobile number and you get a verification link sent to your phone immediately. However you don't get bombarded by spam. Obviously you need a 2g/3g/wifi internet connection.Enjoy it while it lasts because i can't see it being free forever...would love to be proved wrong though

The recent reviews of their iPhone app don't look good. One points out that their privacy policy gives them access to your entire address book and everything in your iPhone. Others say that their messages don't get delivered.0

I usually ignore app reviews on the Apple store, quite often they're written by people who're not very technically minded - that's not to say that apps don't crash in iOS because they do. I've been using the Jaxtr app on my 4S (running 5.0.1) for a few days now and its not crashed once and messages always get delivered instantly across the world. I suspect if the app developers start spamming people from a users address book then people would leave them in droves. Since the app appears to be beta, i think sooner or later they will start charging for it. A one off charge for the app or even a yearly charge i don't mind but if they start charging per SMS then goodbye JaxtrSMS!0 -
Sounds like a great app if you don't mind all your personal details being collected by the company who owns the app and sold on.When you use JaxtrSMS to send or receive SMS messages, we may collect and maintain information associated with those messages, such as phone number, the wireless carrier associated with the phone number, the content of the message, and the date and time of the transaction. We also reserve the right to collect information, such as telephone numbers and e-mail addresses stored in the Address book of your phone. Please note that JaxtrSMS may allow third party advertisers that are presenting advertisements on some of our pages to access the above information.0

Correct me if i'm wrong bit I think there's no such thing as Data Protection laws in USA (where Jaxtr is based) so they can get away with such t&c's for their American users but if they tried to pass their UK users details to UK companies then they would get sued irrespective of what they put in their t&c's.
