Hello,
I split up from my ex almost a year ago now, i moved out over six months ago and he said i could have my furniture back when i was ready to get it,that time has been and for several months he has refused to let me have me back whats mine. The police came to avoid a breech of the peace but said i couldnt have the larger items back as i couldnt prove they were mine but i can now as i have the receipts/invoices with my name and that address on them.
How can i legally get my stuff back? im not talking about cheapy flat pack furniture here, for the curious, its a washing machine, solid pine triple wardrobe, solid pine bedframe, top end mattress and a few kitchen odds and ends.
Any advice would be appriciated!
ohhh...and im allowed the microwave back as it blew up....!

I'd talk to the police again and explain that you now have proof of ownership, see what they advise.
Don't suppose you still have a key to the house?0 -

I think it would be illegal, sorry to hear about your job loss Rebecca

No, but you should mention that fact when you speak to the police so they know you wouldn't have to break in or cause any damage.

Of course you can't officially use your key: you aren't a joint-owner of the property any longer.
What would I do? Arrive when I know that he's going to be out, let myself in with a large van parked outside and a couple of mates to help me take my things.0 -

I'd be tempted, the problem with that is it could extremely messy and have some serious consequences for the OP if he comes home earlier than expected and calls the police.0 -

He may have already changed the locks or gotten rid of the furniture.0 -

It will be difficult to prove, reciept shows black leather suite, how many of those are about?
the ex could lodge a counter claim for storage, I'm not sure why the OP would want the suite back, when the ex and his new partner has christened the settee probably 3 saturdays per month
