How much you can borrow is a meaningless figure. That's not an "emergency fund". Borrowing money, any money, with the exception of perhaps a mortgage or a business loan (i.e borrowing money for purposes of investment) is an emergency in itself.
Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”

Mines biggest so far..:)
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

With the likely exception of the house, in an emergency everything I own can be turned to cash within a week or two. This includes fixed term deposit accounts - none of mine are absolutely tied up with no access, although the penalties for early access are up to 5%.

In terms of the last 2 posts ... I drive a very small car, IYSWIM :rotfl:

Well I am not interested in comparing them (might help if I had one lol) and I didn't mention amts. I figure that on top of my savings, investments, I could borrow another at least 50-60K if not more instantly without going thru a new loan application if I needed to. But I don't like borrowing.

Gosh, if I got together ALL the pennies I had?

Well, ignoring the unknown ones (havent checked in the sofa for a while) I have a jar of pennies that's about 10cm^3.

I'd hazard a guess that it contains AT LEAST £4. BUT, some of those are 2p coins.

So, I reckon, £2.50 ish.

*gets coat*
