blocked loo

any hints on trying to unblock a loo?
My daughter put a bit too much toilet paper down this morning.. The toilet is pretty poor to be honest at flushing, it doesn't take much to block.
So far I have tried to break up the toilet paper etc with a long cane stick, flushed the look a few times, hoping it will break down / dissolve enough to eventually clear. I think the blockage is in the u bend where I can't get to it..
I think there are some products on the market which I can get to try and shift the blockage... mr muscle stuff?
any experience of these ? thanks

First thing to try is emptying a bucket of water down it, not pouring it slowly but empty in one quick go.0

Ours is the same: it blocks really easily. I think it's because it's modern and doesn't use enough water...
The main two methods I've successfully used are:
1. plunger (I know have one from a pound shop next to the toiletbush) and glove. Plunging the water down when the bowl has filled up.
2. if it drains slowly, I wait until it drains and then I use a bucket of water from the hot tap (not boiling water as that might crack the bowl). Sometimes leaving it to "marinate" with the hot water for a bit of time afterwards...0 -
As post 2. It works every time. Needs to be a full two gallon bucket tipped in fast. Cold water works fine.
No chemicals and no need to get intimate with anything nasty.0 -
No plunger, use a mop with plastic bags over the head. In the bowl and a couple of good pumps.
But i would try the bucket of water first.0 -

Seconded.....0 -
It is most effective to use a mechanical method as mentioned above. The chemical unblockers are more suitable for sinks.0

try a plunger first or an air gun thingy.
a wire coathanger can get round the bend and break the debris up.
worst case is to remove the wc pan and clear out the blockage.
not the best job in the world.Get some gorm.0 -
Sometimes the direct route is the best, roll up your sleeves, get your hand in and pull out the offending material.

Yep, with a rubber glove on and a carrier bag over the hand to grab the offending article.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
