Messing about with Sky cables = no signal = sad face

Any technologically minded people out there know anything about Sky boxes/cables?

Was going to put the Christmas tree up tonight but we needed to re-arrange the lounge slightly to fit it in and the sky aerial cables wouldn't stretch to the TV's new position so popped to B&Q and bought 2 satellite cables and 2 back to back "F" connectors...attached connectors to the end of the original cables, attached new cables to other side of connectors, attached cables to sky box...looked like all was fine until I turn the box on. TV Guide and everything is there but no picture coming through. Went to signal strength, it was registering strength and quality so *something* was getting through but no picture. Decided it was too late to keep faffing with it and put it back the way it was...but even now with the original cables back in the box, telly back where it was and no Christmas tree (:() I still have no picture!!

The TV Guide is happy to tell me what I'm missing though, I just can't see anything!

What have I done? Can it be fixed? Am I an idiot? Will I have to call Sky? Will I ever get my Christmas tree up?!

how are you connecting it to the TV? sounds like you could have knocked that cable

you mean the cable that goes from the box to the telly? umm...i think its an hdmi cable...I'll go have a fiddle cheers

Unlikely , otherwise how do you see the EPG, switch the sat cables preferably one at a time(Irish I know...) see if you still get EPG and also a picture(OH and did you switch off the Sky box when disconnecting the cables )

no joy with the hdmi cable I'm afraid...

...But I did start to break out in a cold sweat when I realised the hell that would be my life if I didn't have Mickey Mouse Clubhouse back and working by the morning so I gave in and rang Sky...the guy had me work some voodoo on the box by pressing random digits and hey presto, 2 minutes later its working again. No idea what I did or what was wrong but now I really want to try putting the extensions back on!! Just scared I'll mess it up again. Thanks all!
