No, they left without letting me know. I'm waiting for a response from the water authority.
I still feel Gothicfairy is far too trusting. Perhaps she thinks it's only nuclear missile launches that might require safeguards and checks. If her argument is valid, there would never be any fear of anyone cheating or altering anything, let alone a simple mistake when the reading is logged.0 -

To be honest I don't care what you feel about me, I have said my bit and if you want to feel that someone who works for a water company would maliciously change your meter reading for kicks then be my guest.
You were not talking about a mistake so please don't change the issue now, you were suggesting that someone would do something like that on purpose and I disagreed..not really up there with nuclear war is it ?There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

If they come and change your gas or elec meter they will leave a card giving the readings but unless you read it before they start work you have no chance to check it has been written down correctly. If you were that worried about them getting it wrong why did you not read the meter as soon as they said they were there to swap it?IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Because they arrived when I was busy with other things. It didn't occur to me to check the reading when I was told they were going to change the meter. I only realised after they'd gone. The onus was on them, and they failed, as the water supplier has now acknowledged. The guys who changed the meter were working on a 'special project' and it appears they didn't follow standard admin procedures. The water supplier has said sorry and given me a refund worth several weeks water, back to the last firm reading. So it's a fair result for me as a 'money saver'.
So, on one side of this debate is me and the water authority at a high level. We both agree their operations people failed on this occasion.
On the other side appears to be some people on this forum who seem to think I have unreasonable expectations and standards.0 -

Talk about over egging the pudding..This is what started the problem in the first place...No one thought you shouldn't have had the meter reading but the language used was what got my back up..All this conspiracy theory and malicious stuff was just to much.
So really you should say you are sorry and that it was a simple mistake quickly fixed and no one did anything maliciously..
It is fine to be all money saving but you have to have some common sense as well as not see major company conspiracy where there is none.
