Internet being throttled?

Our broadband is through Virgin Media. How can i tell if we are being throttled?

    easiest way is to do a speed test http://speedtest.net/ but other things can affect your speed, eg if you have 50mbit BB and you use 'G' wireless then you will never get above ~22mbit speed.

    when you do the speedtest it is best to use a wired connection also

    Just checked. We are on the XL package which is up to 30Mb download speed £28.50 a month.

    Speedtest.net told me i was downloading at 19.70 Mbps. Upload 1.93Mbps.

    My pc is on practically all day browsing in between doing household jobs. However, my son is heavily dependant on his pc. He uses Skype, his Xbox and uses Youtube a lot.

    I haven't used the site myself, but I understand that Google set up the Measurement Lab site to promote net neutrality. There's a test you can run on the site that supposedly checks for throttling:
