Intermittent access to internet

Hi
Not very good technically but basically I have a Belkin router and last night the light marked ADSL started flashing orange - it would go blue and then back to orange. Switched it off over night, but same happened first thing this morning. Then out of blue it started working again. Stayed on for about 10 minutes and then same thing happened again. Does this suggest a problem with the router or something else?
( I am in local library at moment that's how I am online?)
Thanks for any help :)

First thing to do: change the filter, the little block that sits between the phone socket and the cables that run to the router and the telephone. This solves 99% of all connection issues. You can get filters dirt cheap from anywhere and they're worth stocking up on.

You need to give more info, what OS are you using, what ISP, and how are you connecting-ethernet or wirelessly?
If the latter, the first thing to do is try ethernet instead.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks also posted on techie stuff. Returned home to find by line resting on tree outside. Nubby cut down branches touching line and not had problem since. Is this feasible? Thanks again

    1. Replace filter
    2. Remove all no broadband hardware from phone sockets
    3. Remove face plate from BT master socket as shown in video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwYaA6n-FN0 only connect new filter and router and then perform BT speed test again.
