Why is everyone talking about benefit fraud?
I still do not see anything saying that ther ex committed benefit fraud, or the OP helping the ex to committ benefit fraud.

The house is in your sole name - he has no claim over it. Tell him to get lost! If you feel you 'should' pay him then remind him that the agreement was when the house was sold - it isn't sold so you don't owe him anything.

i think the 'benefit fraud' bit that people are mentioning is due to the fact that generally if you are on benefits (generally) you are only allowed about £3000 in savings before you have to declare it - then you have to live on that until it is down to £3000 again.

i generally also agree with the majority of other posters about not giving the money - although only you know your ex-partner best. you are currently sticking to the agreement (as you have not sold the house) and they are still harassing you like this.

Thanks sazzacat, I know this, but what I don't understand is where the ex committed benefit fraud or the OP helping.

This is not directed at you, but what benefit was the ex claiming? Housing, JSA, Income support, child benefit for his child.
Did he declare the money? Did he need to decalre the money?
Did the OP help him to conceal his actions knowing he was committing fraud?

    So many questions.

If you do decide to give the £20,000, where is to say it will end at this? They could decide they want want if they feel they get somewhere by harrassing you for money! Where's the proof you gave £10,000 as it is?

The agreement was when she sold the house he would get the money.
She is not selling the house so no money is due.
