Morning All,
Sorry I have been busy trying to find out what is wrong with my car. And I dont know how to quote several posts.
Rik242- I have written everything down, who I spoke to, whats happened etc. I have also spoke to trading standards and they say that I am able to complain under the Supply goods & services Act 1982, to complain verbally and also in writing to them.
TrickyWicky- I found out that I need a number of things done, High pressure pump, diesel pump, and then 4 more new injectors, fuel tank and fuel lines. The reason for 4 different injectors (to the ones already been put in) is because Renault had found metal swarf in the fuel system, and on an 06 plate car with less than 40K miles, another mechanic I spoke to said it is probably because the previous owner had put petrol in the car!!! And because 'my' garage already put new injectors in, started the engine then there is probably a chance of the metal in the injectors which they had fitted in!!!0 -

as for xyz garage, they may seem to have misdiagnosed, but its trial and error with cars of modern era, even a fault code reader can tell you one thing but means another so your still none the wiser untill you replace what the car is telling you is faulty, have had a few like that in the past nutorious on citroen and pugeots, ultimatly if youve given them a blank cheque book to work from and by that i mean find the fault and fix it said to them then you may have to stump up the cash, 1. you didnt specify a limit to them, 2. you did not call them to STOP work and meet with them to find out what progress has been made, 3.contact through third party is never a good idea unless someone is checking the car is ready for pick up, they do not have to speak to a third party about your car, your contract is between you and the garage and this is how mis communocation can happen (just like the chinese whisper game).
the xyz garage is fullfilling your instruction to find and fix, thinking you have the money to cover the costs as youve not specified the limit to wich their allowed to spend on your car, had you said you have a limit of say for e.g £700 inc VAT and labour, as soon as this limit is reached their duty bound to contact you directly to update and inform of progress, give a clear new QUOTE and ask for permision to carry on, because if they carry on over the agree'd limit without permission you can legally refuse to pay the amount over that £700 as its not authorised work.
Did say its my car, and Renault still refused.
No, I did not say I had a limit but I had asked on a number of occassions whats the bill at the moment, especially in the first week as I went to the garage every day. And he just said I dont know... I Dont Know.... or Its hard to say.... Now, I can see I was stupid and naive but I thought as he was the expert and he was recommended by someone I trust I didnt think he would be a 'rogue' trader!
Because he didnt know what the problem was when the second injector went I said to him, can you test the fuel (in case it was a dodgy batch from Tesco, he said, no its cant be that 'the injectors have gone, so I have to test that as its the most obvious thing'!!0 -
Just a point.. He DID change the fuel injector RELAY under the bonnet fuse box first ??
Symptoms are, engine runs to hot, relay should close, if it does not engine starts to misfire and eventually stalls.
Throws error codes :: Just about all of them, random injector codes, alternator code, fuel pressure sensor, map, maf, egr...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Just for clarity, did you ask the garage to find out what was wrong with your car or did you tell them the guy in the orange van says it needs injectors?
If the former, they are chancing their arm and are out of their depth. If the latter, they are just complying with your instructions.
No I didnt know what was wrong with the car.0 -

Morning,
I am not sure, he said he changed the injectors, when I went down one day the bonnet was open and had four bottles with plastic tubes coming out connected to my car. He just said he changed the injectors.0 -
you should contact consumer direct to find out your "rights" with the renault garage, and your costs towards the xyz garage.0

What did I say earlier? - Renault will try to sell you parts you don't need. I very much doubt there is anything wrong with your tank or lines but they'll invent something to sell and replace for you if it boosts their income.
Have you even asked to see the evidence before accepting what they've told you? - Did they show you any metal swarf?
I smell a rat with their explanation. Injectors can usually be cleaned/flushed and while I know zilch about diesel vehicles I've never heard of them having a diesel and high pressure pump (i may be wrong about that though).0 -
As OP still hasn't bothered actually saying what the fault is, or what car it is, or what engine variation it is, I'll leave you with a couple of observations. Diesels sometimes have a lift pump as well as the high pressure delivery pump. Secondly, common-rail diesels that are mis-fuelled are always recommended by manufacturers to have the whole system stripped, flushed and critical components (all of them) replaced. That's why there is an increase in such cars becoming write-offs and appearing as apparent bargain buys for the unwary at the auctions.0

I will speak to them again tomorrow about Renault. I was doing a million and one things today as well as this, Consumer Direct told me to a write a letter so on that now.
The garage are willing to go to court, and will not release my vehicle (someone said this was illegal-as its my property- but not sure about this)
Getting all facts before I speak to the local garage.
Thanks you all for the advice.0 -

prepare to do battle, they cannot keep you car or refuse to hand it back turn up with a tow truck and the police and see who says you cant have it back.
petrol contains metal scum?? sorry doesnt that sound odd to you?
if it did we wouldnt have running cars. the garage have twigged your a push over and know nothing about cars so want to rip you off basically. i presume renault know nothing about your renault or any other, without knowing the model and year car you have i can only assume it a 1.9 DCI, or 1.5DCI or 2.0DCI or 2.2DCI all of wich have different setups.
as its an 06 it may have the flyby wire fuel pump, it a tiny torpedo looking thing with two wireing connectors.
or the high pressure mechanical belt driven pump wich is bolted to the engine, in wich case youlll have a fuel filter PRE PUMP of the paper kind, any metal in the fuel will get cought in the fuel filter causing blockage, your car wouldnt run if it was caked up in it and a simple drain of tank and a simple fuel filter replacemnt could cure it.
the 2.0 DCI suffers with oil pump pressure problems due to the external pipe splitting releasing oil and air or a hose clip becoming worn, this causes stalling after 5-10mins or so, also, any metal chards in the engine could be from a turbo blowing its propeller shaft into bits resulting in it being sucked through the engine NOT THE INJECTORS thats bad.
1.9 suffers with injector failure, usually one goes at a time not all 4 in one pop, also theres fuses next to the battery that get wet and corrode causing weak contacts your immobiliser can play up a bit due to these being corroded, keyless entry will also play up and the steering lock can become faulty with the radiator fan kicking in constantly untill card removed and drivers door opened, diesel pumps are tricky on these depending on the part number, some were good some were awfull for being tempermental on what fuel they had in them, fuse box can get wet (due to kinked or pinched rubber seal) under the bonnet and pop ignition, diesel pump relays.
but without knowing what you have i couldnt tell you what could be causing your problem to be ARMED when you speak to a renault "huhum" fitter.0
