I am not sure exactly on figures but it really is rubbish on petrol, i put £10 in yesterday and drove not very far and my petrol light came on, it is just too expensive for me to run. As for the insurance I will check it out when I get a car to make sure I am covered.

And although I don't want to be picky...I really hate how Skodas look!!!!
£10 for not very far! That is bad.
My car goes quite a long way for just £70.

And it's your cash, you can be as picky as you like about how your car looks.

It is, my mum had to give me petrol money earlier!!!!

I think I like VW Golf or Polo - just depends on what I can get for my money!!

    Wilykit,

The latest Mk VI Golf is a really good car, good to drive, comfortable, quiet and economical. If your journeys are mainly short and around town then I'd say go for a 1.4 TSI petrol; for longer dual carriageway or motorway journeys then a diesel would prove a better choice.

I have a 2.0 TDI Golf SE and will be replacing it with another, either a 1.4TSI Match or another 2.0 TDI Match when I change it.

Best thing to do is go and have a drive in one and see how you get on.

I think before you buy a new car you should find out what is wrong with this one. FILL it with petrol, reset the trip meter, then next time you fill it up, see how much petrol you get in (in litres) and work out the fuel consumption.

Saying £10 didn't go very far till the fuel light went on doesn't seem like much of a basis for buying a new car - the fuel light could go on with 5 litres left, so you don't really know that the £10 was used up when the light went on.

Considering that £10 will only buy about 7 litres, it's not inconceivable that only 2 litres got used before the light came on.

In my car 2 litres would get me about 10 miles (it's not economical at all). In a 1.6 Megane I'd say that going "not very far" would be about right for "not a lot of petrol".

You might find another car goes "a fair bit further" for the same amount of "not a lot of petrol", but you do have to factor in the extra cost of buying it in the first place.

Is the new journey to work "not very far", "quite a long way" or "bl**min' miles!"?

To be fair I want a car also because this one is just too big - I don't need a big car! I just want a small hatchback really, and I think its just the car being so heavy and the engine size means I don't get as much out of my car when I did when I had a Ka lol!

but I am going to be a Homecare Assistant so will be travelling a lot
I don't need extra insurance, it will be used for commuting

Traveling between people’s homes is NOT commuting, if you check your policy you will see that for insurance Commuting is between home and 1 Permanent place of work.
