Forcing update on Sky+ HD Box

Hi All, quick query, hoping someone out there knows a little about it...

We had some builders at my apartment building, and coincidentally, at the time they were messing around on the wall where my sky connection comes in, I lost my sky signal altogether. I followed instructions on the internet, and all signs pointed to there being a problem or obstruction to the signal, so I asked my landlord if someone could come and have a look, as I knew Sky wouldn't come out as they didn't install the dish.
Lo and behold, when the engineer came round all he had to do was force an update on the box (never heard of this course of action before!) - is there anything that could have happened to make the signal go in the first place, or is this a common thing?

Thanks in advance

If the dish was obstructed for some time the Digibox might have got "confused". In addition, if the signal was blocked, the Digibox might have missed a firmware update - hence the need to force it manually.

Or your Digibox may be faulty - you haven't stated the make and model number on the label but Thomson models, in particular, are notorious for PSU failure and Amstrad failure is becoming more common.
  • Thanks for your response, moneymaker, and apologies I haven't been back recently to thank you properly.

I'll check the make and model and report back. I am hoping it was an obstruction that caused the missing firmware update, as my landlord wants me to cover the cost of someone coming out and fixing it, and I am hoping to feel vindicated at some point (and avoid the charge)!
