Rogue Customers!

Options
Urgh, why do some people think it's ok to book a tradesman (boiler not working), give us the go ahead to order the part needed, let us fit the part and get it working... with no intention of paying.

We fitted it - the customer paid by cheque (which we don't usually allow but he 'couldn't find his wallet). Cheque bounced, phone call to customer who then admits that he has no money, and never had any intention of paying.

So, we're £300 down, customer is toasty warm with a fully functional boiler and we'll probably have to take him to the small claims court to get 50p a month or something along those lines.

Just a vent... now we are not accepting cheques at all, and taking deposits for parts - but we shouldn't have to, what happened to people being honest

Go & get your part back! cheeky beggars.

It's all in how you ask :) Send your most tattooed fitters, and make sure that they have their pipe wrenches in their hands, slowly tapping them against their other hand as they ask to retrieve their part!

For the avoidance of any doubt, this is a joke :) I do understand your frustration though.

Shameyou couldn't go in the dead of night and block the vents off of the boiler, so the sensors kick in and cut it off. Offer to sort it after they pay in cash !;):D

I got done quite a few times last winter, when condesate pipes froze, still outstanding 11 payments, which I have no chance of getting back. Got them sort of blacklisted, with other engineers in the area now, so anything happens again, no one will help.

And people wonder why small retailers are a bit funny over payment these days.

You pay 10% on order and the rest, by cash or card prior to installation on the day with me now. Any problems and you don't pay for a certain part ( eg fire trim, fret etc) until it is sorted.

I took a Business cheque in good faith a couple of years ago.....never again :)

I have always been very grateful to the locksmith who came out to sort out the broken key in a lock and said he would come back the next day to be paid as I didn't have the cash. When he came back and I paid him he told me a lot of people take advantage and refuse to pay even though he knows their address. I couldn't not pay someone once they've done the work. People like this spoil it for the honest people who would pay.
