It's not that they were short, so much. People were on average shorter, but there were still 6 footers. King Edward III, aka Longshanks, was about 6 ft 3.

But longer oak beams were very, very expensive. They cost much more per unit length if they were 7 ft than if they were 6 ft, say. Like diamonds.

I would imagine that would be down to the Navy purchasing vast quantities of oak?

Well I don't remember anyone making the assertion that numerous bulls said that only new build flats have fallen in price. I've tried the search function too - nothing there.

You've either remembered incorrectly or been caught out making things up.

Or I've remembered correctly and you guys don't like it.

Incidentally, its not the case that ONLY new builds have fallen.
    That would be ridiculous.

But as average house prices nosedived post 2007, I recall numerous bulls self comforted by asserting that "crappy new build" flats were the worst hit. (except those bulls with a portfolio of crappy new build flats of course).

I'd imagine that both a 6ft or 7th diamond would break the bank!

Incidently, it's thought that all white dwarf stars will crystalize into diamonds.

Must have been a different site you're thinking about - can see anything here to back up your assertion.

Yes and no - oak was always in demand. The navy didn't really demand a large share until later than a lot of oak-framed houses were built.

You need a very large and straight oak tree to get many 7 ft beams out of it.

You know what I mean (-:

I gather it's a lot cheaper to buy 2 diamonds of 1 carat each than 1 diamond of 2 carats.

No. No. I think its this site as much as any other.
Particularly since most of the "bulls" have ended up here anyway.
