    I would ask to have my meter tested, that reading is wrong. If indeed you did use this amount your veg is burnt also your saucepan.

    They won't need to have their meter checked if they happened to misread the units - the three in the red zone don't count (I've already managed to work out my gas bill today to be in the thousands for the last month or several)
