Freezing Cold boiler wont stay lit

My mum lives in scotland and lives on an end terrace house . When she attempts to light her combi boiler it will sometimes light but within minutes blows out because of the wind. The flue that comes out of the house goes onto the road and had no shelter around it which is why its blowing out so quickly. It doesnt have a pilot light. She cant build anything around the flue that comes out of the exterior wall so she has been told anyway as its illegal. She has been told she can get the boiler moved to the back of the house but this is surely going to be costly ? Any help would be appreciated.

Needless to say her house is very cold at the minute and she is getting fed up of having no heating.

The title is abit misleading, It should read "Shes freezing cold, her boiler wont stay lit "

Hi.

Make and model will help but, as a rule, combi boilers will be fanned flue and no permanent pilot.
You could be barking up the wrong tree.

Yes there is no permanant pilot . Its a vokera syntesi 35

It does stay lit for a few minutes but then blows out.

It works fine when its not windy but its on the wall that gets all the wind

thanks for your post about time us gas engineers
had something to think about

the small holes in the burner alongside the bigger ones
are for flame retention so it should be okay

the main gas pressure into the home at the gas meter,
governed by the governer, may be set too high or too low
working pressure (all gas appliances on)
should be 21mbar at the meter (outgoing)20mbar at the apliances ( incoming)
or the gas pipework to the boiler might be undersized causing an initial weak flame
prior to full gas rate demand, which is suceptable to blowing out in high winds,

ps blocking/restricting a flue outlet is a absolute no no
even though i have done it on many occasions in
my laborotory,
its in a trained/safe enviroment,

i doubt very much if the solenoids ( a magnet wrapped in copper wire with a posh name )
on the gas valve is on its way out
by your post however a quick ohm`s resistance test would clarify that

and obviously the burner itself is clean, i am sure your service engineer has washed it out,
under a cold tap or used pressurised air on it,i do both personally but im a belt and braces,
nut........

I suggest you have someone dig deeper into the probable fault you have with your (mother's) boiler.

Im really confused the man who came to look at it serviced it only a few days ago. .Its only when there is wind and he has suggested getting the boiler moved.

Can it not just be the wind thats blowing it out ?
