From the outside looking in these secured tenancies are a joke, just because somebody needs help at one point of their life does not mean that they should receive it indefinitely thus depriving more needy families.

I'm aware that councils have taken repossession proceedings against tenants who have lied to obtain social housing. I remember that the audit commission data matching exercise sometimes identifies fraudulent applications, such as exposing those who have falsely claimed to be homeless who have been given social housing but found to have a property elsewhere, those that are subletting. However, it is really difficult and expensive for social housing tenants to recover their properties - even those with significant rent arrears are virtually impossible to evict.

But that is why people aspire to social housing.... Security of tenure.
  • How do they get "financial gain"? The rent on a social housing 4 bed is almost identical to a 3 bed.
They get finiancial gain by receiveing cheap rent when other people who work but do not earn anything near 60,000 can not get housed. These people have to limit having 1 child as the private rent for a house is so expensive. Can you not see how your enquiry has enraged so many people but you seem not to see anything wrong in what they are doing? an continue to do by having more kids and wanting to now get a bigger house? When most families are struggling to pay mortgage/rent at the moment you "friends" are catching an easy ride and are now wanting an easier one. The nerve!!!

would love to know how they're going to manage it tbh?
I also have four kids and am in a 3 bed.
We're 'entitled' to a 4 bedroom due to sexual overcrowding, and have been entitled since youngest was born 13 yrs ago. However like the other poster there is a severe lack of 4 bedroom properties in this area ( London borough of Sutton)
When youngest was first born we did try for the bigger house, but have given up now as it's not likely to happen. We've adapted our 3 bed so we have more space ( lost the dining room)
we'll stay here now until the kids fly the nest, then downsize.

So while on paper they may well entitled to bigger property if there simply isn't one available I have no idea how they'll get one??

And nominal rent (if they pay any at all, that is). And no maintenance costs.

So if you know that you've run out of space, why did you continue having children?
