Hastings Direct want £35 to email me my T's & C's

Hastings Direct don't send out policy details for their insurance, they email you with a link to them that's only valid for 21 days, if you want to look at them after that it'll cost you £35. This is just for them to send you another email - how crazy/cheeky is that?

I'm going to let them know how I feel by cancelling on them, it's all you can do right? Just wanted you to all be aware.

Why didn't you download them in the first 21 days?
  • Which is my fault but not an unreasonable assumption - it's how every other insurer I've used works.

Even so, £35 for a standard email seems rather punitive.

I wouldnt cancel if your policy is up and running, it'll cost you a lot more than £35.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Thanks for taking the time to let us know what you think. I’m so sorry that you’re not happy the service from us. I would really like an opportunity to look into this for you and need your help to do so. Please would you let me have a bit more detail such as your policy number and contact details? I think the OP meant their own policy documents rather than standard T&Cs.

Why does an online insurance company not give you access to your account, and all the paperwork electronically?
The whole point of online is to avoid the paper isn't it, or is it a cynical profiteering exercise?

Its a cynical exercise in paring the "headline cost" of insurance down so it appears at the top of the price comparison sites & people buy it whilst still making enough money for it to be worth being in the insurance game.
An exercise that, if we buy on price alone, we are all complicit in

“There is nothing in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and he who considers price only is that man's lawful prey.”
