SKY Package or BT Package

Hi All,
We're supposed to be having SKY TV installed tomorrow and we've also ordered the phone and broadband.
Sky have asked us to contact BT to get the MAC number before they can transfer the phone over.
I've just contacted BT to get the MAC number and they've said our existing telephone number, which we want to keep, is not guaranteed and SKY have only reserved it?? So we might not be able to keep the existing telephone number. Is this correct?
Also, my partner has an existing yahoo email address, which I think she got when she got BT Broadband and BT have said if we cancel the broadband with them the email account will be lost. Is this correct? Surely anyone can sign up for a yahoo email address? It's just like going to hotmail and getting an address from there.
My partner can't afford to lose the email address and we don't really want to lose the existing telephone number so we need to get a straight answer from someone who isn't trying to just keep our custom.
Thanks
MJaye

There should be no problem keeping your number going from BT to Sky.
You should have the MAC code available when you sign up-it takes up to 5 working days to get it.
As for your email, simply sign up for a Gmail account and then your address will be ISP-independent.
Make sure that you are signing up to Sky LLU and not Sky Connect (non-LLU).No free lunch, and no free laptop

When I switched from BT to Sky it took me 90 minutes holding on the phone to get the MAC code and when I complained BT sent me £65 in compensation. The "Essex boy" who dealt with the call was the most obnoxious individual I have ever dealt with. Good luck0

FYI, the email service that Sky provide is in fact an OEM version of Gmail.
Nice feature with Gmail however is that you can use the same login for all your Google accounts i.e Picasa web album, You tube, google docs, android market etc.
In addition its yours for life whether or not you remain with Sky Broadband.
The stuff about not being able to keep your phone number is complete rubbish.
BTW if the OP is interested they can save a bit by paying for 12 months line rental up front. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
