Help with legalities

Morning all
My telephone line and broadband is with BT business. I am 1.5 years through a 5 year contract on the line and 1.5 years through a 2 year contract on the broadband.
BT have just put my prices up on both.
I called them yesterday to discuss this and their take on this is that they legally can increase the prices even though I am on contract. They also stated that I cannot break the contract early without paying penalties.
To me this really doesnt sound right. If I cant exit without penalties then surely they cant increase the prices during the term? Otherwise theoretically they could just say OK its going to cost you £100 a month and I would have no comeback? To me logically if they decide to increase then surely I should have an opt out without penality if I decide I am not happy with the increase?
Hope the above makes sense.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Richard

All sorted out.
Called BT to raise complaint about the way this has been handled.
The person I spoke to did not seem to care. They just put me through to the cancellations team and I have told them cancel. Told them I am not willing to accept the increase and that I also will not accept any termination charges. They seemed to accept that.
So much for service. Expected much more from a company like BT.
Ah well, I can move to Virgin now. 10x the speed for a 30% reduction in the bill.0 -
But unless it's a fixed price contract, they can increase the price during the minimum term. Why did you agreee a 5 year minimum term-this is not standard on a BT business line?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Yes they can increase the price but I have the option to refuse the increase and leave without paying any early exit penalties as I have just done.
The sales person who I dealt with originally didnt say anything about 5 years. It was only when I moved home and needed to transfer the line that I found this out. If this had been brought up originally I would never have accepted it. A year at a time or possibly two if the price is right.
Since I started with BT I have had endless problems with bill and technical issues so just glad to be getting away from them.0
