I'll apologise in advance for this comment, and I fully expect to get flamed, but ...

I know you're frustrated, but your post is a wall of text with very little punctuation. As such I got half way through it and gave up. Hopefully others will have more patience and perseverance than me.

Or you'll edit your post or repost with a better structure, so that it is easier to digest.
  • I wouldnt expect anything else from Comet.

Had a dodgy washing machine off them in the past and their customer service is truly awful. Ive vowed never to shop with them again. Id rather pay extra and get proper customer service.
  • Hi
apologies for bad punctuation as i said before had a very bad day and just wanted a bit of a rant and needed to know i was not the only one who had a bad time with comet .

So you have a faulty product which they are sending an engineer out to repair if possible, and if this isn't possible they are going to organise a replacement.....

    whats the problem?

What exactly did you quote from consumer direct? I'm going to assume fit for purpose or not of satisfactory quality from the Sales of Goods Act? In which case, since they're already dealing with it how is this going to help, other than annoy the telephone operative? (which btw I don't excuse their poor professionalism)

So when you turn it on.. the electicity supply trips? Is that what your saying? If so, how is having it plugged in (but off) a danger to anybody? It tripping in itself is a safety procedure.

I agree, was very difficult... hope this helps :D (not perfect by far, but easier to read)

We also had an electrician come today and confirmed it was not the sockets it was the washing machine, he suggested a possible earth leakage into the socket? anyhow phoned comet today and they were so unhelpful, I quoted the 28days and they said because i had opened the box to the washing machine:eek: the 28day no quibble didnt apply.
I have to have a technician come out, soonest monday, then he has to right it off and then i can have another washing machine -- but he may try to fix it, tho have been told he will right it off but spoke to someone else and they said he would fix it all in all.

I have never had such rude unhelpful people i didnt choose comet it was an old for new insurance with domestic and general so have no choice but to go through them again.

I also quoted consumer direct and customer manager told me people try this on all the time and most of what they say isnt worth the paper its wrote on and they dont scare him. I also said i wasnt happy about having a possible dangerous problem if one of the children where to plug the washer in he said that was my problem as it was my machine in my house i gave up in the end could i have done anything alse just thought we were more protected with the 28day returns.
  • Hi
when i phoned comet they told me it was the sockets so had them checked, all okay, i thought wrongly that it would be hassle free and no technician needed as it was a new product.

Just to add i did not annoy anyone they just did not want to know thought they would be more nice i suppose and not rude.

we had a battle with domestic & general to right the previous machine off after numerous breakdowns and repairs we finally get a new machine and it goes wrong within a short period and anyone with a family will know what a pain that can be.

oh well off to the lauderette tomorrow:)

An electrical fault with a consumer appliance is a quite serious matter, especially if it's causing the sockets to trip. If the circuit had old-style fuses rather than circuit breakers then quite a high current could potentially flow, leading to a fire risk.

Make sure it cannot be plugged in. Eg tape up the plug.

Whilst there's an outside chance of a socket being faulty, it's highly probable that the appliance is faulty, especially if you've had the sockets checked. And with this sort of fault I'd expect them to write it off - a repair is unlikely to be economical. ( And I'd have no confidence of the inherent safety following an electrical fault).
  • Thank you for your advice just to say second electrician came out this morning, we have a council property and we reported the fault that evening incase it was the sockets, he confirmed it was not the sockets and he also tried the washer and everything went off so re confirmed washing machine.

    regards

There is nothing wrong with fuses or fuse wire, as long as the correct wire has been used then it will blow for the current it is rated for, the same as an MCCB, both rely on the current being higher than the rated current to trip them.

No one needs to accept a brand new faulty item.,some of the replies, comments I see on these sites are cr..p .

Reject the goods, and tell them they are also due you the costs incurred for calling out an electrician when he was not needed.

If the earth leakage trip is activating, the machine is potentially unsafe.
