I would recommend you check the moisture content of your logs as they are not always as well seasoned as the sellers would have you believe.
Hope all goes well with your install......enjoy!If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you! :dance:0 -
Thanks for that w50nky ,just one question how long from cold does it take for the stove to come up to working temp 300/400 c ? Does 20 to 30 minutes sound about right .
Just been to a woodworking factory and was told I could have all I want of hard wood off cutsthey get a massive skip full every week

Yes that will be a fair average time. Initially start off with a few smaller fires to "condition" you new stove and allow fire cement and seals to settle as it were.
I burn the stove quite hard and then close the air off to obtain a nice steady burn, refuel after approx an hour then repeat the cycle. I am sure a little practice will reveal the ideal method for your stove. Get your self a stove kettle for "free" hot water and it also adds a little humidity to the air too. Perhaps a stove top fan in time too. Lots of advice on this forum.
Don`t tell anyone (except me) where you obtain your free timber as a source like this is highly valuable! If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you! :dance:0 -
I would advise you get a thermometer (which should go on the front of the stove, not the pipe on a clearview)
I don't have a thermometer, not much pipe there, with it being a rear exit flu. Can I place thermometer on front, or either side of my villager duo, or best to leave as is??
Thanks.0 -
Can't wait to get a kettle for it and a fan if they make that much difference to warming the room
they gave me a clearview thermometer when I bought the stove, it go's on the stove not the pipe .how long will that lovely kettle take to boil when you fill it

The kettle takes a varied amount of time depending on the fill and temp of stove (obviously) but I reckon an average time of 10 mins. It`s almost always on the stove top and refilled after making a cuppa or washing up etc. We suffer around 10 power failures of various lengths a year and it`s great to be able to have a brew and a stew.
I find a fan speads the heat throughout the room and gives an overall temperature. I am sure oter posters will give their views on kettles and fans.If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you! :dance:0 -
If the stove is in an opening then get a fan from amazon as the difference they make to the comfort of the room is enormous. My stove is free standing in the room so we get lots of heat with out having to work the stove hard. My mum now uses a lot less fuel keeping her room toasty since she had the fan0
