Capital One - Rejected!

Oh well :-/ They say I can appeal but am not sure if its worth it - anyone had any luck appealing their decision? I'm a former bankrupt (been discharged a couple of years now) and the criteria did say they may consider those who have been discharged more than a year ...

Think I'll leave off a couple of months now. My credit file for Experian and Equifax is all correct now, so that is a positive at least :)

  • I can confirm they do accept discharged bankrupts. Just posted a thread on my story in the bankruptcy forum. Have you had any other forms of credit since discharge?
  • I've got two phone contracts that were originally regular phone contracts but around about the time of my bankruptcy I changed them to sim-only (monthly rolling). I've got a broadband account, and two bank accounts, the basic one with Coop and Lloyds TSB basic account also. I was a named driver on an insurance policy. I've run all of them really well, but in terms of actual credit, nothing like a loan or other credit card. I'm registered on the electoral roll and my credit files are all correct (all credit agreements during bankruptcy showing as settled) and quite a misleading score in the 900s from Experian, so I thought I would be good to go.

  • My equifax file is the same, doesn't even mention the bankruptcy! The experian one does. Not sure what else you could do other than try again in 6 months.

Even though i've now got credit cards, i can't get accepted for anything other than a basic bank account.

There doesn't seem to be any guaranteed criteria to getting accepted!

Were capital one in your creditors list?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    They were one of mine.
  • It was the first time I'd dealt with them, they weren't in my original creditors list, no.

Sorry I can't add any advice to what others have already posted

Thats interesting, only earlier this week James the Experian rep said that this kind of anomaly could no longer happen. Good to see that the credit scores are still as useless as they always were.

Yep, my score is 902 despite six defaults and a discharge BR order showing in all their glory on my Experian file.

Had no trouble getting a Capital One Progress, though.

I reminded experian rep about their incorrect financial key facts on their website, it says the insurance is free and other side says £6.99
