Excessive admin charge for private reg plate
Hello all
I recently purchased a private registration plate for my car.
I informed my breakdown company, no charge. I informed my insurance company, no charge.
However, my HP company want to charge me £25 admin fee. I think this is excessive for an admin assistant to sit down and punch a few details into a computer, and have written to them to inform them of this.
What are other people's experiences of this? What exactly are my rights regarding this?
I have requested justification by way of a breakdown of the charges fromt hem before I submit to payment!
Regards
JT

Is this admin assistant operating in a vacuum, or has the company had to provide a building, computer equipment and system, heating, lighting and training to enable them to be there to press a few buttons for you?
You don't have a right to a breakdown of charges. Given how much you've probably just spent on your fancy pants new plates, I don't think £25 to the company who effectively OWN your car is over the top whatsoever.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

I am sorry but I don't understand how anyone with a car on finance could ever think it was a moneysaving idea to buy a vanity plate instead of trying to pay their car off. It's just a sad reflection on our society.0

This is classic..... Private plates on a car you don't own? I guess as long as the neighbours don't find out.....

to be fair there's a few conclusions being jumped to here - how do you know how long he has been paying the HP off? to say he doesnt own it just because its on HP is not correct...if he has paid off the majority he does in fact own it....from a finance point..how do you know he is wasting money on HP it might be an interest free deal? as i said few conclusions being jumped to...0

I suggest you re-read you HP agreement. The charges will be clearly stated on it. You did read it all before you signed it didn't you?0

Cripes! So much for a caring society here on MSE!! Thanks Xoleeb and Slyracoon for your positive contributions!
FYI, I own it from a finance point of view as I have paid back 3/4. Who on here (who in the world?) pays for a car outright?? We all get finance, and if you don't, then why are you on here?
I had the choice of a loan, or of HP when I bought the car. The HP was cheaper all round, better APR, better length of term, and smaller repayments, all in all saving me over £600 interest over 4 years, that's why I took it (plus I can hand it back after 1/2 payments should I ever run into financial difficulty, which I never have and never intend to as I manage my money very carefully).
So what if I don't OWN the car; I come into a small windfall and treat myself to something, I'll bloody well spend it on what I want to. As a point of comparison, I changed address recently too, they didn't charge me £25 to update my address! The computer operative had to type in at least all of 40 characters more to do that. They shouldn't charge for one amendment, and not another.
Anyway, rant over, but if you don't have anything constructive to say, then just don't bother....check out the forum etiquette! If I disagree with something someone posts on here, I just don't reply. Please extend the same courtesy.0 -
Personally I think you are lucky.
I transfered a plate from an old car (off to the scrappers but had a old style plate on it) onto my motorbike (makes it easier to fit the euro badges on for overseas trips) and Swinton, insuring the bike didn't charge. Endsleigh insuring the car charged £25 and argued everyone was the same. I pointed out they clearly weren't all the same.
Anyway, upshot is, you could have been paying a whole lot more so not a lot you can do about it really!
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Care to elaborate 5t? I'm not quite sure what you're talking about here but it sounds intriguing!
