iPhone - Pay as you go

Options
I'm looking at buying an iPhone 4S. I don't want a contract.

So I'm wondering what the best deals are for topping up. My main priorities are texting and internet (not that I'd use the net THAT much outside my wireless network). I just want to know that it's there if I need it. Checking football scores etc :p

Does anyone have a PAYG iPhone, and what do you do?
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

  • Best to get it simfree and maybe use a sim from giffgaff if your considering the payg root (phone will then be unlocked to any network)
  • giffgaff is probably the best value deal if you're on pay as you go, for £10 you can get 250 mins unlimited texts and unlimited internet for a month, so it's kinda like a contract in the sense that you're paying £10 a month but it's not a recurring charge so you have to manually top up your sim by £10 :)

Orange are giving 250MB/month free for a year when you get an iPhone on PAYG. Even ordering a micro-SIM for an existing PAYG account can suffice in some cases.

I've seen that name bandied about but haven't really paid attention as it's not a "named brand" if you know what I mean. Definitely intending to get simfree unlocked etc.

Can you port your number to giffgaff (I know I could look it up, but might help other users ;) )

Yes you can. It runs on the O2 network which invariably seems to give me a good signal.

    o2 3G is the worst !
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • The 02 signal would have been useless for me so I have my 4S on Three PAYG and I'm more than happy! For £10 a month you get 100 mins, 3000 texts, 500MB and an additional 150MB free!

Can't be as bad as Orange's.

I have lost 3g signal on Oxford Street (note, not in the middle of a field, the middle of the capital) with Orange before. That is simply not acceptable
  • I have a three sim in my ipad - very very fast 3g access.

When my phone comes off contract I will be leaving orange and either moving to three or Giff Gaff, not decided yet

So looks like giffgaff is better than 3
