Veg/Fruit Boxes (with photo's)

Joegw, I noticed that you're in Swindon. Have you tried any of the more local schemes, like Coleshill Organics or Purton House? They are better value, I think, than the big companies, and delivery is cheaper or even free. I haven't used them but I know a lot of people who do and I've never heard anything bad about either.
Thanks Callie22, I went for the A&C deal as it seemed like a good deal (4 for 3). I have now closed my account with A&C and will try one or both of your suggestions.

Anyone reading this, please post some photo's of veg boxes. I would like to see how Riverford fair against Abel & Cole.
I won't be getting a box this week but will try a local supplier the week after....pics to follow! :j
Thanks to all who post comps!

Hi. Any updates on the boxes? Thx£2012 in 2012 = £34.440

Sorry, I misplaced my camera, and by the time I'd found something to get a pic with I'd finished that box and eaten most of the next one! I'm not getting a set box again until January. I'll make sure to remember then!0

I was wondering if there are any updates, as I'm considering getting veg boxes too

PS has anyone tried farmaround (london and N. England)?0 -
I have just started ordering from Riverford (after a friends recommendation) I find them excellent. Could not go back to supermarket veg now, you can really taste the difference. Reminds me of my Dads veg from the garden when I was small. Look on line for the various boxes you can get delivered. I dont get the same each week and this week I made up my own selection by going into the "shop" section instead of the "boxes"
They are reliable and all the veg I have had is good quality and would keep for 2 weeks. This has also helped my diet to be more healthy.
Edit: Just looked at Farmaround (we live nr Leeds) and note that they charge delivery. Riverford deliver free and you are also told which farm your produce is coming from. You can contact the farm direct if you have a problem.0 -
My mother has had veg boxes from Simply Wild on the Kent/Sussex borders and she was disappointed. She reckons she gets better value by buying direct from farms in season and has become friends with several farmers.
I've used Foodari https://www.foodari.co.uk which delivers in London and SE and my opinion is mixed. Love the deli stuff, fish and game but think the veg is usually really expensive. Even when I specify no substitutions please they do sometimes sneak them in so I don't use them much now.
Haven't tried Abel & Cole or Riverford - if you can make up your own order without committing yourself to a regular order/box I'd try it.0 -
The telegraph half price offer above is still working if anyone is interested!0

I've given up on farmaround, as their website has not been updated since 2004/5, will try Riverford as it's recommended on MSE

You don't have to commit to regular orders with Riverford. I second the posters who say the quality of Riverford is better than Abel and Cole.
I gave up with A&C after getting manky veg one time too many, you can ring and tell them if the veg is bad and they give you free veg or money off the next box, but it was getting embarrassing to keep phoning them.
I do wish that Riverford would copy A&C with the "dislikes" list. Their veg box seems to have cabbage and/or spring greens every week and I am sick of eating them now.0
