Phantom Cancelled Primus Account Saver Option 2

Last October I signed up for a Primus Saver Option 2 account. I recieved confirmation by email that Electronic Billing had been activated and I looked forward to seeing the reductions in my BT bill.

I have received my January BT bill and was shocked to see the size of it. I called primus to be told by that I had phoned up on January 20th and cancelled the Primus account and told them that "I wanted to stay with BT".

The only problem is that I didnt cancel the account. I didnt phone Primus on January 20th and I certainly didnt decide to move back to BT. Primus will not accept that there is an error. They are telling ME that I CANCELLED the account (as the person that called up had my password and account details).

Has this happened to anyone else. Any ideas on what I should do to reduce my BT bill ?

Surely the phantom switch only means you've been charged differently for your evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls (i.e. instead of getting them free with Primus, you've been charged 5½p for each call by BT)?

Whilst I appreciate it's annoying, it's only been 11 days since 20/1/07 - surely you can't have made that many 5½p calls in 11 days?

Primus told me the account was closed on Jan 20th.This doesnt seem to tie up with my BT bill. But as I dont have itemised billing I cant see when BT call charges start from.

With BT, you can see your 'Recent Calls' online. In fact, you can also see your calls from the last 2 bills as well (I've just viewed the 7 calls which were on my August 2006 bill and the 8 which were on my November bill).

http://www.bt.com/index.jsp (see 'View & pay my bills' about halfway down the list in blue text in the centre).

Bear in mind that, if you're on quarterly billing, your BT bill will be in the region of £33 for your line rental in advance before calls (and broadband if you have it from BT) are added.

Thanks for the help I have signed up to see the itemised bill online but there is a 48 hour delay.

I was expecting the £33/quarter but ended up with a bill for £82.43.
  • this is interesting as i signed up for the saver 2 option and was told that i would be live on their service within 10-15 days. Its been 2weeks and i have not heard a thing from them. i emailed them last week asking when i will be using them for calls and have as yet not heard an thing back.
I am tempted to ring them up as i was expecting some confirmation at least. what you reckon?

There've been a few cases of e-mails ending up in spam folders and one, at least, of an e-mail address being recorded incorrectly - resulting in the reply disappearing into electronic oblivion.

    Make the call.

Not Primus, but when I was with TalkTalk - when they offered free evening and weekend calls with line rental remaining with BT, I'd only been with TalkTalk a few months and I received a "Sorry you are leaving" letter from them, managed to get through to some one at BT after TalkTalk said they had been told by BT I wanted to leave and BT told me "We thought you'd want to come back as we had changed our prices".
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I would ring Primus to make sure you don't get any nasty suprises.

Def. ring primus to confirm. I switched and didn't get any notification of switch dates etc. and had to ring to find out what was going on.

I would take a look at this thread to see more about Primus problems.
