Mis-sold credit card?

Options
back in 2004 i changer my regular current account to a gold account (which i didnt keep that way for long), shortly after i recieved a credit card thru the post, with a £1000 limit.

i was 18 at the time and had never had money before so as you do, i started using it, and was soon at its limit.

however recently iv put in a claim for the ppi back ( and had an offer of nearly £1000 yesterday), but thinking back i never actually wanted the card in the first place, i never applied for it, i didnt sign anything etc.

is it possible i can claim back anything (all, interest etc) from this, surely this has to be illegal to just send out a card?

any help/advice would be great xx

Was somebody from the credit card company holding a gun to your head to force you to use the card? Grow up and take some responsibility for your own actions.
  • yes i kno i was stupid to use the card, as i said i was young, but i didnt know how they worked back then.
  • Did you upgrade the account over the phone or in the branch? If it was in the branch then you can request a copy of the original agreement, which should have your signature on there.

At 18, the age of majority you had no idea that when you got a credit card and you spent money on it and you had to pay it back.

    Give over man.

    Move on.

  • You must have applied for the card in some way or they wouldn't have sent it to you. And secondly even if you didn't think you'd applied for it, you should have sent it back straight away. And thirdly, they're offering you nearly enough to pay the whole card off, I would accept it instead of causing trouble, claiming you didn't apply etc, they may withdraw the offer.
    Current debts:
    Wonga Loan - £0 :-)
    Vanquis Credit Card - £500 (£500 limit) :(
    Aqua Credit Card - £250 (250 limit) :-(
    NatWest Credit Card - £500 (£500 limit) :(
    NatWest Current account - £-1990 (£2000 overdraft limit) :(
  • i think in branch. so you sayin because i upgraded that included automatically sending me a card and because i signed ( i think ) , theres nothing i can do?

As another poster has said, you've been offered £1000 back which surely makes it all quits??
Just what sum of money are you after to compensate you for being 18 and unaware of spending £1000 and not realising it had to be paid back?
  • ok, the ppi i have been offered does pay off whats lleft on my card because i have been paying it off in bits and have cancelled it now, also leaving me with about £200 for myself, i have no intention of rejecting this.

yes i did know i had to pay back what i spent, and yes maybe i should have sent it straight back, its just easy to get carried away when you have somethin youve never had before. im sayin i had no concept of interest rates etc and from what ive recently found out im on a very high interest rate

not realy helpin mckneff, im not asking for your advice on my stupidity, im just trying to sort myself out
