HI
I need an external hard drive for two laptops to store photos on. Quick google search came up with hundreds! Any recommendations. Need something reliable but that doesn't cost a fortune. Thanks

I use Maxtor as does daughter but there is a 1 TB Seagate on Argos for £59.99 http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6758624/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7COffice%2C+PCs+and+phones%7C14418968/c_2/2%7C14418968%7CHard+drives%2C+USBs+and+data+storage%7C14419053/c_3/3%7Ccat_14419053%7CExternal+hard+drives%7C16528298.htmEverything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0

The only thing I would say is to make sure it doesn't need external power and will run just through the USB plug on your PC.
I recently bought a good one from tesco.com 500Gb for £39.99

They are all going up in price significantly at the moment as most of the world hard drive manufacturers were severely affected by the floods in Thailand: either their own premises or those of subcontractors were flooded!
Can't see any improvement in the situation for 6months to 1 year's time frame.
I have a couple of Western Digital Elements portable drives.0 -
A memory stick will hold thousands of photos and a lot cheaper and easier to carry then an ex hard drive.0

Thanks everyone. Seems like they are pretty much out of stock in a lot of places.0

If it comes to External Hard Disks. Seagate is the best.0

Rubbish - they are certainly not the best! You are obviously unaware of the built-in self-bricking feature more here
Seagate have had more than their fair share of problems with 30% - 40% failure rate on some models. Seagate bought Maxtor which also had very high failure rates.
Seagate - best avoided if you value your data. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
