£10,000 to pick up this sellers items but no postage offered!!

Can sellers actually make buyers pay the price of picking the item up? With this seller there is no postage item so £10,000 to pick up an item seems pretty steep

Except of course that I suspect he is trying to avoid the 'paypal on collection' scam. I don't think anyone can tell him how to avoid that- although for a 99p bike I really wouldn't worryI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt Soolin, he did thank me. A lot of newbies don't know that you can even do the 'local pickup thing'0

I still reckon he is using a much suggested way of avoiding the paypal on collection scam by having a postal option should someone insist on using paypal.
The way it is suggested is that you ask for cash on collection, and if someone refuses and insists on using paypal you can point out that you then require the item to be posted and they will need to pay up for the postage as stated. The postage costs are there to put people off opting to use paypal.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. He has sold a local collection item before with free p&p, so he's probably doing as soolin suggests.0 -

The Paypal on collection is a common scam, a buyer will pay for the item via Paypal and arrange a local pick-up. A week or so later they will claim non-receipt of goods where the seller has no leg to stand on against Paypal (can't prove delivery), so the buyer gets the money back (until the seller takes the buyer to court)0 -

yeah i get that but why charge for pickup is it a way of preventing that scam or something?Raven. :grinheart:grinheart:grinheart0 -

It is a suggestion often made on the community boards. I feel it is rather flawed but since there are no guaranteed ways of selling a collection item for cash I suppose it is about as risky as any other suggestion.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
