    Why's that?

    all you can eat data

comes as standard on the one plan or £3 a month add on on any other plan

three really are the only network that truly gives a monkeys about data and how people use smartphones.

An android phone such as the Galaxy S2 can use 200MB or so just updating the native widgets in a month. so is 500MB enough?

There is a setting somewhere that sends text messages via 3G as opposed to actual text though this may be only to other iPhones. Not 100% sure but will ask my other half in morning as he works for O2. Sorry I am half asleep. He also has a 4s and has same problem as do mist 4s users apparently. Will check back in tomorrow and update on a more useful answer.

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end :)

Yes of course, because the Three service and signal is oh so good. I suggest you look beyond the bundle...

It's also a 24 month contract...I prefer mine at 18 months - and yes, 500mb is enough if you know what you are doing. Too many people plead ignorance and that's just not good enough.

The number of posts here lately about androids needing data monitors etc means this is not an iPhone only issue.

you can use iMessage if the person you are texting is on an iPhone too - works the same as a BBM on a BlackBerry - in saying that it will roll over to be sent as a text message if iMessage is unavailable - remember, iMessage uses mobile data to send a message, Text Message merely comes from allowance.

I left Orange because in my area their service is oversubscribed - can't make or receive calls most of the time on 3G or end up talking to yourself - Googles homepage takes 10 minutes to load and its actually faster on 2G. And yes, I did get cross network to T-Mobile enabled.. My wife is leaving O2 this weekend because in my area their service is oversubscribed - also end up talking to yourself most of the time you answer the phone or make a call.

Three have no capacity issues at all here and have upgraded the capacity at the current cell site twice in a year. I can download at 7 meg on HDSPA with 3 - it was actually faster than my ADSL until I upgraded to ADSL2+ 6 months ago.

Before I stupidly went back to Orange 3 years ago having subscribed to them from the mid 1990's to 2001, I was with 3. As a former lorry driver I travelled all over the UK, far wider than you're likely to do in your lifetime, and found no problem with coverage and that was only up to 2008 - they've seriously widened coverage since then. When it comes to 3G and HSDPA coverage 3 have the widest coverage of all networks so I don't know what this coverage issue is you speak of.

I prefer mine to be 12 months and thats what I got and I think 500mb is an insult to be honest. You're hardly able to use your smartphone to its full potential are you unless you can find free wifi?

Yesterday I signed the wife up to Sim 600 All You Can Eat Data 12 month contract which gives you 600 minutes, 3000 texts and unlimited data for £15 a month however I did it through Quidco so it actually only costs a few pennies over £8 a month. What allowances are you getting for £8 a month? Obviously not a lot going by......

YouTube on mobile network will kill your data allowance VERY quickly - I have a 4s and have had no problem at all, I have set up wifi as much as I can - and frequently look out for decent free wifi round the city etc.

Unlike you she doesn't have to go looking for free wifi to use Youtube and it'll download several times faster than your free wifi will as you'll find that most free wifi is capped to around 256kbps, a third of even 3G and 1/28th that of HDSPA.

As you may have gathered, I found your sarcastic comment suggesting "I should look beyond the bundle" a tad insulting. I've had mobile phones since 1991 which I suspect is a damned sight longer than you and in some cases longer than some contributers have been alive.

3 is cheaper via Quidco and you get over double the minutes and better 3G and HSDPA coverage.
  • I'm afraid his is the case, and I know it's no help to you probably but O2 will say " it's that apps not our fault turn the data off when yo don't need it" and wint be able to I've yo any data breakdown to try o find out what is what.
Apple advice is to strip off all apps and add back singly till you find he big hitter- again it would work but a flaming nuicence to do.

I've taken my 4 over to giffgaff as I was so fed up with basically having a crippled iPhone for 2/4 weeks each month whn I hit the 500 mb cap ( I tried buying extra data but tht vanished fast too)

Interestingly, month 1 on gg rather suggests it WAS an O2 issue. I've really used the data as much as I've wanted and more - streamed a few episode of porridge on u tube , used net radio when i want and even watched 1/2 episode of sherlock in the car ( lost it on the m42- bah!).

Even with all this ive used 1.3gb only. I guess there is at least 1gb streaming there that I would never have done on O2 so baseline use ( which hasn't lessened!) myt be well under 500 mb.

Do tell us how to get unlimited data cheaper on 3 than £10/ month. It would be really helpful.

All I can find is p&g £15/ month or the £25/ month deal.

I have a 3 sim on the £10/ month that had a good cash ak rate but that's a year tie in and just 1gb data.
