One of my favourites is pasta aribiatti (not sure on spelling)
Basically pasta sauce made with onion, garlic, tin toms, tom puree, chopped value bacon bits and a sprinkle of chilli flakes.Simmer till thick and pour over pasta of choice.I think the mix of different bacon ie smoked, unsmoked, back or streaky makes the dish."Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0 -

SS How do you make your calzone? We just had our first cooked from scratch pizza, made the pizza dough in the breadmaker, but I wouldn't mind trying a calzone.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -

All I do is roll out a circle of pizza dough, smear on some tomato sauce, with cheese, basil and some shredded ham, run a wet finger around the edge, and fold over.
The thing with a calzone is, where I normally just use tomato puree for a pizza topping, I make a more liquid sauce for calzone, and am more liberal with it and the cheese. What you're aiming for is a crisp outside with an oozing inside. As always I cook it at the max temperature of my oven for about 10 minutes.
I think I need to make this for dinner now!Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

I've done myself just 100g of spaghetti, and tossed it with some grated Parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of ground black pepper. Squisito.
Or, fry a finely chopped or crushed clove of garlic in 1 tablespoon of olive oil per person and toss the spaghetti with this. This dish is actually a classic one and is called "Aglio e Olio".
PS. I've just found a restaurant (not in London) menu online, charging £8.50 for "Spaghetti Aglio e Olio"!The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

Don't know if this has been suggested but here goes....
Pasta with tomato and basil sauce - serves 4
Glug of olive oil
1 small onion
garlic cloves to taste (I use 3)
large tin tomatoes 19p
Bag of pasta 19p
Grated cheese or parmesan (optional)
Sprinkle of dried basil or handful of fresh (fresh is 50p per pot in Asda at the mo)
Method
Put water for pasta onto boil
Chop onion and soften in olive oil for a few mins
Add garlic and fry for a minute
Add tin of toms and season with salt and pepper. Leave to simmer until pasta is cooked
Add pasta to boiling water and cook until done
Add dried or fresh basil to tomatos. Drain pasta then add tomatoes to it, giving a good stir to coat the pasta
Voila....dinners ready and done for less than 40p per head
If there's any left over, it's really yummy cold with a little chilli addedLightbulb moment 2/1/07First Direct £2500 loan
