Wanted 9v PP3 battery for smoke alarm.

I am looking for a 9v PP3 battery (rectangle profile) for my smoke alarm. Have been looking through amazon etc websites and came across Duracell Procell range. Are they any good? What are the difference between procell and the normal range? Could not find any info on duracell website.

Is there any offers out there? Don't mind the make. Looking to buy at least 4 batteries.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

  • It's Energizer that usually do decent bundles on 9v/PP3s, last year it was 2 for £x, and not just for the most popular AAs. Check Argos and Sainsburys but they have deals going on wherever there are big battery standees.

Procell are for the trade and usually bulk packed and not in retail packaging.

I always pick up batteries when I visit Ikea, made by Varta and good value.

Not a lot of use if you don't have one nearby though.

My personal experience of Duracell Procell PP3s is that they are very good. Which is strange, because Procell AA and AAAs are not that great.

I used to buy them from Farnell when they had a BOGOF offer on packs of 10, but 7dayshop now sell them at under a tenner per pack of 10, post free, which is hard to beat:

Compare that to paying £4.99 each in Sainsbury's!

I use a rechargeable PP3 in ours. lasts a lot longer, 1 year plus, than I was expecting.

It has also last much more than 4 years of charging too.

It was one recovered from one of the kids radio controlled cars.

    I use a rechargeable PP3 in ours.

I've heard it said (though never from an original authoritative source) that this is not recommended, because of the "off the edge of a cliff" discharge characteristics of rechargables.

Alkaline cells have a much flatter discharge rate as they die, giving the smoke alarm plenty of time in which to do the annoying bleeping...

I also have a couple of 10 year alarm from the fire brigade. One lasted 5 years :-( Pity the batteries are sealed, you have to replace the whole unit.

I have additional fire alarms around the house running on PP3
