Big Problem Cancelling Old Orange Contract

Hi,

I signed up for the Orange Trial (Unique Phone) back in the summer.

I also decided to cancel my old orange contract and sign up for a new one to get a good handset on 28th October 2006. There was a months overlap of the two contracts but I didnt mind since I got the £100 old phone trade in. They tried to cancel the old contract in the shop but couldnt. We acertained that it was because I was signed up for the pending Unique Phone Trial.

To alleviate this I transfered the trial onto my (now ex) boyfriends contract. It was very difficult to communicate with the Trials Team.

I received a letter to say my old contract was going to be disconnected on 27th November...but it never was (still connected to the network).

I phoned Orange who told me there was a software problem at their end but that no matter what happened, it would be backdated to the 27th November which I was happy with.

I periodically followed this up, and last week I called again demanding to speak to a manager as I had enough as it had been going on for 2 months.

I didnt actually get through to a manager but the person I spoke to worked out that I was signed up for Orange Family with my ex boyfriend. I had completely forgotten about this and noone I had spoken to at Orange since the end of October had worked out that this was stopping me cancel my contract.

I was told that I would have to cancel the Orange Family benefit before being able to cancel my contract. My ex is the overall 'account holder' although I pay for my old contract by D/D out of my own bank account.

Initially I was told that both me and my ex would have to speak to Orange at same time to cancel the contract. I said this wasnt possible, so they put a note on my account explaining that when my ex phones that he needs to tell them to get rid of Orange Family. I sent a letter by special delivery a couple of days ago. He has since called Orange and they should be doing the disconnection asap.

You would think that its getting sorted out, but Ive been told that my disconnection wont be backdated which I think is unfair since the numerous people at Orange I spoke to didnt read enough of my file to see that I was signed up for Orange Family.

If this works, I will still have paid £50 to Orange (2 months @£25) and I dont know if I can get any of it back.

Does the letter saying my account is being terminated on 27th Nov count for anything? If someone at Orange had told me I needed to get rid of Orange Family I could have done it much sooner.

Any advice is gratefully received!
