Bringing it back to the original point Apple know (right or wrong) people will pay a premium for an Apple device, they don't need to offer the extended warranty, discount the devices and can even sell extended warrnties as well when most people refused in the likes of Currys/Comet to buy warranties. If people refused to buy Apple devices, or Applecare they may change but until they do why should they?

thisnis something that really gets me. Apple are so confident (and they're in the perfect position to be so) that their product will sell, that they don't allow any discounts to be applied. So when I call Orange for my upgrade, and say I want the iPhone 4 (not even 4S) on an 18 month deal, they can't even discount the £50 off for me, despite me being a customer for over 5 years. Any other handset and they happily discount £100s off phones for upgrading customers; but not the iPhone. Of course, it's not just Apple: this suits the retailers too as it forces me to either pay them £50, or take a 24 month tie-in.
    Humph!!
    Lol

Supply and demand. Apple know they can do this and still sell all they make and Networks don't want to upset Apple by discounting as they'd find it harder to get stock. 3 Are the only network offering any real discount on the phone to customers.

It may have been arrogant for Apple to do this but they did and it worked, no other maker can do this to the market.

Many phones start off as the latest and greatest and in 3 months are superceeded by the maker, Apples one a year (more or less) policy keeps the range current for longer.

It also comes down to a few other things. By keeping the iPhone price high Apple don't simply take sales from the ipod nano market, it the samll up to 16gb MP3 area, and it also keeps the premium image. it's Very Very rare you see Apple hardware discounted.

Hi both my husband I and I love gadgets. In fact we used to always change our phones as quick as we could. We have two small children who also love playing the games and messing around and dropping them as kids do.

We both have i phones and they stand the kids test with flying colours also this year we completely forget that we where due for an upgrade to the 4. 1st time ever.

Only one problem is that once you have had an i phone you will find it difficult to have anything else.

Absolutely get your wife one she will love it.

My son wants an Ipod touch for christmas. Good old Santa again. Has anyone got one are they worth the money?
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A

Some iPhones do start malfunctioning after 3 years. Problem within first 2 years are rare. If that happens, take it to Apple and they should resolve it quickly. I heard that Apple often provides goodwill replacement/repair even outside warranty period.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

I still have an iPhone 3GS which works perfectly. The only thing I'd suggest though is getting a case of some sort. I've always had one on mine and no problems, but I've seen so many friends' phones which have ruined screens just from dropping it from a short height etc.

I bought my partner one before we both had iPhones and he loves it. Still uses it just as a general iPod sometimes. You can put all the apps etc on it as you would the iPhone, it's just the standard text/call featuers aren't available.

Great for little ones because you can put videos on etc to keep them amused on journeys and things.

This is why Apple's customer service is head and shoulders above the rest. Many people have reported apple replacing their faulty/damaged iPhone free of charge outside the standard 12 month warranty as a goodwill gesture
