Upgrading on a Vodafone contract - did you have to pay for the phone?

Hi all,

Coming up to my upgrade date on my Vodafone contract and have had a look at the deals on their site. Seems like they're asking you to pay money upfront for any half decent phone these days. Has anyone had any success in getting them to waive the charge for a new phone? Is threatening to leave (after over 10 years) a tactic I should use? Any advice greatly appreciated

I should have been charged for my phone at renewal, but they said if I took insurance out I could have the phone for free.

I then cancelled the insurance the next day.

    Worth a try?
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

All depends on the phone you want and how much you currently spend each month. Most are free on a £35+ per month tarrif.

Always ask for your PAC. Its the only thing that they understand!

But with the 18 month lock-in reimposed, it still isn't a bargain. Just multiply the monthly cost by the minimum commitment to get the REAL cost to you. It's a sobering realisation.

Depends on the phone, I have a £35pcm contract with a Iphone 4 that ends its minimum term next month. They were unwilling to do anything on a 4S on my contract that was better than a new customers

I got a call from retentions but the offer was not that good and they said there was no deals on a 4S.
