3 bed terrace, £77 a month electricity?

Options
Hi all,

I pay by direct debit for my electric & gas to Southern electric. The deal i had signed up to expired so i called to get myself on another one as comparison sites said that they were still cheaper. Anyway, I thought we were paying so much as we owe them money from last year. It turns out we only have £22 outstanding and our actual useage is £70 a month  ?? I think this is very high, we paid less in our old house which was identical to this ..but this is a refurb. SO i assumed it would be less for gas & elec because of better insulation, electrics etc.

I know there has been a price hike recently but i just wondered how much other people pay for 3 bed terraces?

We do have a tumble drier, dishwasher, 2 freezers and am wondering if they are all to blame???? Any advice appreciated:)

  • We live in a 3 bed semi and pay £125 per month for both gas & electricity. I am at home all day every day so the heating is on most of the time. I run the washing machine at least once every day, and the same for the dryer (as we get hayfever I don't even hang the washing outside during the Summer). £70 sounds reasonable to me!

Southern Electric have ramped my DD up to £67 a month. when they talked me into moving to them they said it was £15, which i knew was a load of arse but then it went to £45.

Although i do have a 5ft fish tank with two heaters and two filters, a ceramic heater for the geckos, heat mat for the snake, 2 plasmas, 2 freezers and a laptop.... but there's only me and i'm out from 6:30am till 4:30pm. No tumble dryer and the washer is used twice a week.
  • and for gas & elec it's £117...wow! I remember when it cost me £40 for both!!

YES we started really low! And i knew it was wrong but went with it, they then put me up to £50 which i thought was ok and probably what i was using TOPS, then i call up again and its £70! And these are based on readings not estimates :o!

Dryers should have a cost warning attached to them. The average is about 4kWh to dry a 6kg load @ 15p per kWh that is 60 pence in total. Drying a load every day that would cost you £219 per year or just under £20 per month.

Try drying the clothes on a clothes horse in front of a radiator (powered by a gas boiler) for up to 12 hours then finish them off in the dryer.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
