I think I could probably squeeze one into his area....will have to get a measuring tape out later. Good idea though (and yes, not very MSE but then I'm not very MSE when it comes to my dog anyway ;))

You can get 'shortie' single mattresses I think, let me google...

    Here we are:

That one's probably not the best quality but a bit smaller than a standard one.

Oo possible break-through here. Just found a foam shop online that does dog bed foam, cut to size - bottom half firm support foam and top half memory foam:
    http://www.thefoamshop.co.uk/product/145-34/MEMORY-FOAM-COMBO-DOG-BED-LARGE-DOG---CMF35

Just did measurements of 130cm length x 85cm width x 25cm depth and that's come up just over £146 which seems pretty reasonable. I'd just have to solve the problem of getting some waterproof cover on it (Mastiff slobber!) and then throw some blankets on.

I'm not a mastiff (shocking, I know) but I have to say I hate hate hate memory foam mattresses. I find them seriously uncomfortable and too hot and weird for comfort. Has the dog been comfortable on memory foam before?

I got this one for Zara some time ago, the biggest size they had and.. it is a GREAT bed BUT - it is too small for Zara, my 35kg German Shepherd.

Shame they do not do them bigger sizes - their biggest size was advertised for giant dogs - I wanted Zara to have a bit of space on it but she does not even fit :(

Cats love it though so... LOL

My 33kg GSP has the largest size and my 17kg staffiexlab has the smallest size. HOWEVER, many a time, I find my GSP curled into a teeny ball in the smaller one. Or curled up in the larger one so he only half fills it and then the current 23kg foster dog curls up in it with him!

My Great Dane has a Tuffies with a fluffy cover: http://www.tuffies.co.uk/

It's not super super thick - but it hasn't flattened at all and is extremely comfy with the cover on!

    Another vote for Tuffies here.
Got one for my ageing border collie for exactly the same reason - stiff hips and joints - we have hard floors which made it even worse for her.
I have the wipe clean one and just put vetbed on the top so I can wash it easily. So far she's had it 6 months and it's still exactly the same as the day it arrived and she is much happier in it.

My 3 Great Danes share 2 single beds. One of the beds is a normal height one and one is the roll out type that is just off the floor, spot on for the birthday boy (12 tomorrow!) to climb his elderly bones onto.

They do not too comfy, in my opinion, but both i have a large dalmatian and choccy lab. The choccy lab has very bad hips and he loves it, in fact they both do.

His Orvis one was memory foam, yes. That's why I was pretty surprised that it smooshed so quickly!
