Our neighbours were moving to a house where their nearly new vertical blinds wouldn't fit, we offered to buy them off them and they only wanted £150 for 7 blinds which fit almost perfectly! Worth keeping your eye on the local shop notice boards and small ads for similar, £1000 is alot of money!

You can get aluminium effect venetian blins in dunelm mill. Look reallly effective and a lot lighter, so easy to put up. Loads of different sizes and very cheap. We have one in our living room and you wouldnt know it wasnt wood unless you touched it!

We also had the "goldfish" problem and after trying various blinds, plain voile etc we have finally settled on frosted window film:

This allows a LOT more light into the room and maintains the privacy day and night.

    Thanks

  • We kitted our house out in venetian blinds from Chilton Mills, they are really easy to fit and they have a vast range of sizes, which if a little too big can be trimmed easily with blind cutters from Argos. Total for 8 windows was about £200. Great value and they look fab.
Any spelling mistakes are entirely on purpose to check you're paying attention :p

Wouldn't vertical blinds be more practical from a dust point of view? Dust would lie on horizontal slats.

I agree with a couple of other posters, go to Ikea for wooden blinds, they're cheap, look good and the wooden ones are easy to clean, they don't attract the dust like the venetian ones. Easy to put up as well, I glued some wood up first to attach the blinds too, my windows are 6 foot wide and the blinds have stayed up with no problems
  • i got verticals from https://www.wilsonsblinds.co.uk, great prices and very quick delivery, top site
