Handy hint to save money when changing mobile contract
I'm just coming to the end of my 1 year iphone contract with Tesco (£20/month) and switching to T-Mobile (£7.71/month). When I asked Tesco for the unlock code, they said it would take up to 28 days. This would mean I'd have to pay another £20 for a month I didn't want, so I got onto their interactive web chat and asked if they could make it faster.
The assistant said that I could avoid paying the extra month's contract charge by switching to PAYG so I would just have to pay for calls.
So, if you're switching from Tesco (and maybe other providers do the same?) ask them to stop your contract and change it to PAYG when you call them to ask for your unlock code, then when you have the unlock code, call them to ask for the PAC code to keep your number, and they'll let you have it straight away.
Took about 10 minutes and saved me 20 quid.
